  1. What is the worst dealer behavior that you've observed?

Recently my wife brought our new car to the dealership for it's first free oil change. A couple days later, the morning before her 1000 mile trip, I decided to check the level. It was overfilled! So there I was 6am in the morning, before my work conference call, and my wife wanting to leave...
  2. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

Well yeah, there are a number of variables, that's why I brought it up in terms of the idea price doesn't matter anymore. And also, people who don't look at price, or look at monthly payments, I wouldn't call that a good move, regardless of what they could afford. My reason for posting, was...
  3. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

What about for the buyer? I recently bought a new economy car gas sipper for 14k. If I had car payments, each month they would be very low, compared to having for example a 50k car payment. If I were to sell each of the vehicles 10 years from now (or longer I tend to hang onto vehicles like grim...
  4. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

I would be very happy if a base stripped down version of the new Bronco sold in the 20k range. But that's not what I've been hearing. Several persons seeming in the know, state the base Bronco will be a few k more than the base Wrangler. But Bronco will have a few more standard features than the...
  5. Auto Transmission Coolers

FCA thermostat may be there to make sure the trans fluid remains above the minimum operating temperature. And the aux trans cooler would be there for situations where the temps rose too high for the existing cooler to handle. That is why I had a trans cooler on my Jeep, to deal with some...
  6. Motor Trend confirms steering issue fix made to 2020 Jeep JL (gear valve tuning & pump calibration changes)

My old CJ5 had A LOT of play in the steering. BUT, it tracked straight on the road even at highway speed. As a joke for passengers, I used to turn the steering wheel back/forth showing the free play while driving, but the Jeep itself tracked straight regardless. So what I'm saying here is...
  7. Jeep(ish) weekend project

Project looks nice. I haven't tried the all-in-one stain/poly combo. Out of habit I've always first stained, and then top coated with the clear poly. You are happy with the results of the one-step? Seems like a time saver, maybe I should give the one-step a try.
  8. Jeep owners household income

Not that I've got it all figured out, but I try to live by this: "Everything you own, in some way owns you." I've never felt so free, as when I owned practicality nothing, in the 90's when living in a tiny house (before it was a thing) with my wife, in the foothills of Colorado. Our time then...
  9. Jeep owners household income

+1 on health. My neighbor across the street wasn't feeling well, and now we find out she might only have a few weeks to live. Trying to come to terms with this shock. Plan for the future, but try to live well in the moment. Really "time" is of such great value, and sometimes we go off-track when...
  10. New JLU under $30k?

I'm seeing some new JLUs in the Chicagoland area advertised for around 30k or under. The example below has a hardtop. The available savings shown include employee pricing for all and cashback on certain Wranglers. Those are not the sort of "$500 off for buyers having one blue and one green...
  11. Top/Doors Off Corona Question

You might as well not go outside for fear of getting struck by lightning. Your fear of catching COVID-19 that way is unreasonable. This thing is getting out of hand, and those of us with reasonable risk aversion and handling of fear are getting impacted. Somehow we need to get a handle on this...
  12. Top/Doors Off Corona Question

How are some people even getting groceries, if their risk aversion is tuned so high, they fear the ultra low risk of catching virus via top down driving? I'm fascinated by risk perception, and how it differs among humans. We should be thankful there are person out there, able to assess risk in...
  13. Top/Doors Off Corona Question

At the core this virus situation is a test of character. I know some folks paralyzed by fear of this thing. Those who aren't can try to help people as best they can. And yeah, the 3 primary methods of transmission (surface touching to face, aerosol, droplet) have next to zero likelihood of...
  14. Lemon Law Arbitration vs. Litigation

Yes I think front live axle and other vehicle factors, can lead to some unrealistic expectations. Trying to control that big heavy front live axle is generally not going to feel the same as an IFS or car suspension. Also unlike vehicles with highly adjustable suspensions, only toe-in is...
  15. Lemon Law Arbitration vs. Litigation

Is this mainly an issue for some 2018/19 owners? Or are some 2020 model owners still encountering steering issues?
  16. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

Slightly on topic about secrecy, but my sister and niece on a lark, went for a casting call for extras in the "Man Of Steel" Superman movie. And wouldn't you know it, they got cast in a scene with Kevin Costner and others, taking place in a hospital. Face time and all. But it was hush hush...
  17. Unheard of Incentive Currently Available

Was that just the first round in the negotiations? You probably have to do some back and forth, to arrive at a price where both parties are satisfied. I recently bought a new car from a dealership, it was actually my first ever brand new car purchase, and there was a lot of back and forth. At...
  18. I Just walked away from 4.7% Back of Invoice on JLUR

Will be interesting to see the impact. Currently Wrangler is the only game in town for an open top rugged 4x4. I wonder how much having a possible alternative in the new Bronco will impact the Wrangler market and prices.
  19. Looks Like Ford Bronco is Serious About Taking on the Wrangler

An unmentioned benefit of live axle over IFS: you can easily unbolt the entire front axle assembly, and rebuild it in your basement over the winter! My Land Rover front axle currently scattered on our basement floor (I have a very understanding wife). :)
