Back in Nov the main battery in my ‘23 Sport S left my wife stranded at work. Swapped out the battery in her parking lot and once we got home I swapped out the small aux battery. For some reason the start/stop system does not work, actually stopped working a few months prior to swapping the batteries but I figured after the battery swap it would begin working. Did I miss a step? Honestly I dont really care since it’s a worthless system but if I missed a step I don’t want it to cause other issues.

There are numerous existing posts on this forum to help you diagnose.

Your dash info screen will give you some data to start working with. The start stop status screen and battery Voltage. Voltage at rest (engine off) shows battery and engine running shows smart alternator charging voltage. The higher the charging number the lower the battery charge/health.

Also good to test each battery disconnect from the Jeep. Both voltage and load test. There's a slight chance one or "now" both of your batteries are damaged because they are connected in parallel "most" of the time.

II could go on and on, but there's a start.

It's an indication that something isn't working right in your charging system that you probably shouldn't ignore.

There are lots of possible causes. The dealership eventually tracked mine down to a faulty IBS.

Since you changed one battery and changed the other shortly afterwards, you may have kept the IBS sensor powered the entire time. Powered by the Aux battery when you changed Main and powered by Main when you changed Aux. This retains information about your old/bad batteries which are no longer installed.

Try the IBS Reset Procedure (Intelligent Battery Sensor) to wipe that old information and start a relearn procedure with your new batteries.

BTW, there is a use for ESS. When your new batteries eventually fail the first thing to stop working will be ESS (which inconveniences nobody). But it is a passive alert that you have about 2-3 months before the batteries fail to a point where it will inconvenience you. That way you can address your batteries at your earliest convenience instead of when failed batteries dictate it.

(Edited for grammar)
