IBS > Clear/Reset:
IBS Sensor: Mopar 68289207AC


Disconnect all 12v power to the JL/JT *

Now, when 12v power is restored, the IBS starts a lengthy relearn process.

Until the relearn process is complete, accurate battery state (MAIN battery) information is unavailable to other vehicle systems.

This relearning process requires 5 normal, operator initiated starts with at least eight hours off time between each start. Usually, the process takes a few days of vehicle operation to complete.

Important: The relearning process is restarted every time power is reconnected to the IBS after a complete 12v power disconnection in regard to the vehicle. This has a major effect on the stop/start feature. (ESS)

Important: You can also, with vehicle turned off... just unplug the IBS, leave it unplugged for a few minutes and then plug IBS back in and this will also restart the relearning process.

@Rhinebeck01 what is a symptom of the jeeps ibs sensor needing reset?

No point in my rehashing info that is contained in many many forum posts..

I started this thread so those that forum search "IBS", in order to learn how it is cleared and what is involved in the relearning process, well, they would have a quick answer so to speak...

When to do and why to do ... well, there is a lot to it... and much of it is over my head so to speak.. Best bet is to forum search and read, read...

In this thread, I have posted info in regard to something that lots of JL/JT owner's will need/will eventually be searching out . ...... Especially, guys that will be replacing their own batteries time and time again, if they keep their JL/JT for any length of time...

Then you have all the guys/gals doing mods and in the process of doing the mod, do complete 12v power kills.... then they wonder when they power up again, why the voltage meter on their vehicle is acting differently.... and them wondering what happened...is something wrong... when will the vehicle stop this behavior... does it relearn and how..

Then you have the guy/gal that has a JL/JT that the dealership replaces battery(s) on... They come here spewing my voltage gauge is not right.. it's doing this.... I'm worried... what to do..
(dozen's of such posts here and on FB, each month)

Well, for all the aforementioned, if they happen to search IBS, and read about IBS Clear/Reset in that thread you mention..... ....and they will also read about,not only how to Clear / Reset, but also about how the relearning takes days and multiple restarts, etc..

In closing, keep in mind.... no where in any posts have I ever said or implied, that a guy/gal ...owner, should willy, nilly so to speak Clear/Reset..

One question that would be good to be answered here, When doing a full disconnect of 12v for upgrades/service work is it recommended to keep IBS connected or disconnect it? From the image you posted it seems like it might be recommended to leave IBS connected, but unsure.

One question that would be good to be answered here, When doing a full disconnect of 12v for upgrades/service work is it recommended to keep IBS connected or disconnect it? From the image you posted it seems like it might be recommended to leave IBS connected, but unsure.

The Main Battery Neg side, has 2 negative cables on it plus the IBS Sensor. They should all be disconnected / and separated, when you want a total 12V battery(s) disconnect.

Just a heads up...
This was 100% my fault...
I have a 2020 jl, 3.6 manual.
My ess battery went out about 3 months ago. I replaced it (fender liner technique).
I disconnected everything when I was replacing it, main battery terminals, fender grounds, the whole bit...
Hooking everything back up, I MUST have jarred the ibs plug just a fraction.
Fast forward 2.5 months, my voltage reading was pegged at 4.7, accelerating, braking, idle...
I replaced the stock battery with an H7 series, because I thought the main battery was bad.
Put it in, and it was still 4.6
Disconnected the ibs plug, cleaned it, and made sure it was good and tight, and now it immediately went to 4.2 at idle, and it bounces between 4.0 and 4.2 on acceleration....
Moral of the story is...be careful! Never even knew what the ibs is! Lol..hope this helps

There have been so many posts an the ESS system that there should be a law....

Rhinebeck01 seems to have his thumb on the problem.

In order to stop the merry-go-round, insure that both batteries load test good, have at least a 70% charge and are not sulfated. If this is done the IBS will keep everything humming!
