And I wonder why they'd cheap out buying the ess only module vs being able to adjust tpms threshold, gear ratio, tire size, etc to save a few bucks? Seems like an incredibly limited subset of Jeep owners who will never change tire size, like 40psi rock hard tires, and find ess intrusive enough they need to spend money to permanently disable it. Seems only slighy less lame than disconnecting the hood plunger?
@Zandcwhite

Most here know I go way back to the beginning with Joe and the Tazer JL in early 2018. Joe gave me for free all my Tazer's and all the other offerings he has for the JL. I got Joe to be a forum Sponsor which eventually he stopped doing. I still communicate with him occasionally...

The Tazer JL is a terrific adjunct and I am very Tazer JL savvy.... .... But, to be honest most guys and gals that buy one get in over there head so to speak. The learning curve is steep and the lets call it responsibility of running with a Tazer JL can not be met by a lot of people.. Most guys running the Tazer JL are not really that Tazer JL savvy... but they just get by and really know little about proper Tazer JL procedures, etc...

With that said, though I am very pro Tazer JL, I do feel that if all one wants to do on their JL is say change tire size, gear ratio, tpms and such they should just use JSCAN. Along with JSCAN buy a SmartStopStart unit to deal with ESS.

Also... I feel that most guys actually running a Tazer JL, should be using what I call the hybrid approach.. They concurrently use the Tazer JL and JSCAN. JSCAN for gearing especially.

Trivia: Steve at SmartStopStart figured out how to deal with ESS before Joe at ZAutomotive did...
Took a few months for Joe to figure it out so to speak. And yes, ZAUtomotive was first to market with a programmer for the JL... other's like Superchips, etc. came after Joe's offering..

I have Tazer Lite to disable start/stop amongst other things. Problem I'm having is when unit is left plugged in full time I would occasionally get a random 'light show'?! Like I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking the cops pulled into our driveway just to find out it was the freakin' Jeep! After a few times of this happening I decided to not keep it plugged in full time, thus now disable start/stop :(.

Anyone else have this issue

The light show only happens on ours if you push the lock or unlock buttons on the fob multiple times. Is your cat or kid playing with the fob?

Well, as never having owned a Jeep, and when getting one, have no real interest in off roading it.
But have had several 4WD rides over the years and like to have the option if heavy snow and/or ice and or pulling my boat out of a slick ramp............to enable 4WD and get er done.
Your idea of..........."Seems like an incredibly limited subset of Jeep owners who will never change tire size, like 40psi rock hard tires, and find ess intrusive enough they need to spend money to permanently disable it"
You're delusional to conclude that most Jeep owners will change tire size and do a lot of stuff that I guess the Tazer deal offers up.
My observation over time suggests that I see a whole lot of (Rubicon) models that I would bet money will NEVER venture onto an off-road deal. They have decided they want that model but are not happy with the damn start/stop issue......

I bought a Rubicon Extreme Recon with absolutely no intention of ever changing anything. I got a stop start eliminator only because the function bugged me and I was sure it was all I needed. Here I am with JSCAN and Taser. Just an evolution in my thinking and needs, if someone had told me just get the Taser from the get go I would have thought. Ridiculous.

Well, what about disabling torque limiter and speed limiter in 4L, disabling speed limiter in 4H, disabling torque management system/traction control, blocking access to the RF hub which prevents key programming, cannot be detected by dealer tools ?! If you have a V8 it disables MDS, a 4xe it allows full power in 2wd. , simple PNP, can be turned on and off.
Only another $275 …. cheapskate. 😉

This is for those of us who aspire to reach a level higher than "lame". I might move up a few levels if Remote Start stops working.

Options for Disabling Engine Stop/Start (ESS) / Autostop
Level 5: Tazer JL Mini
Level 4: Tazer JL Lite
Level 3: OBD JScan (or just "JScan")
Level 2: Autostop Eliminator
Level 1: Disconnect Under-Hood Switch (AKA hood sensor or plunger); seal each end with electrical tape
Level 0: Push the Autostop button on the dash after every start
Level -1: Trade in for an old Jeep

The Under-Hood Switch is one of two switches located in the front of the engine compartment, and is the one closer to the driver side body panel. I have been told that the other switch is for everything else.

Excellent recap, @g2020 and good confirmation, @Vinman, for myself and others who opt for this approach. Glad it works for you too.

Get a tazer lite.
Not only does it shut off auto stop/start, you can shut off traction as well.
Plus dozens of other nice features.
I don't know why anyone would spend $100 just to shut off auto stop/start. Pay more and get way more features.
I enjoy sway bar disconnect and rear lockers in 2hi the most.
ESS on an alternator equipped JL does suck, but I just use the dash button. Sometimes I let the stock setup do its testing by allowing ESS.

With my Rubicon I have found the stock traction arrangement mostly good for a good variety of conditions, though being pretty much governed by electronics is a negative.

I am curious about rear lockers during 2H. What experience am I missing?

I have a Taser on my Rubicon and Sport. No issues with either and I take advantage of many options beyond start/start feature. Each on is set up a bit differently as my wife and I differ on what features we want active. I like being able to turn on the fan when I'm coming up a 4 mile long grade at 7000ft and 80+ degrees.

With my mud tires, I found I can get by majority of terrain in 2hi, with lockers in 2hi, I do better than most in 4hi.

Well in my younger days, I was upside down under a many dashboard while installing radios and speakers in new Chevys. Sadly, almost getting myself "stuck" under the dash in 90 degree temps while coming in upside down from the passenger side trying to unhook the proper connection and reinsert the end of the eliminator.
Had the lower front panel off below the steering column. Did indeed get what I believed to be the right connector unhooked...........which I thought was gonna be the toughest part. Only to struggle to get the eliminator connection to go into the now vacant spot. Could not get it done. then got my shoulder trapped under the dash and a cramp in my leg and for a while.......thought (nobody home but me), that I was in serious doo doo.
Finally extracted myself and at this point have pretty much given up on the eliminator. Now I'm forced into the button pushing after every start up.

I purchased this harness before my factory-order Jeep arrived, and installed it the same day I drove my new JLU home from the dealer. Money well spent. Granted, it's a one-trick pony, but I like the convenience.
wouldnt you worry that the dealer can use it as an excuse to void your warranty?
