I also have the forward collision and adaptive cruise control so the housing is much bigger. So far no aftermarket replacement mirrors work with it. Also haven’t figured out how to get the mirror out without breaking something.

This question is born of respect and ignorance, not saber rattling.

Why wouldn't acquisition of a Z Automotive Tazer, which for less money provides the ability to use the backup camera at all times, in addition to other features offered by the product, not be a viable alternative?

Is it that using this product takes up radio screen real estate?

TIA.
I orginally removed my factory mirror all together and just went with the Tazer solution on the dash. It works great when you are on the freeway and put your turn signal on for a lane change. It does not work well if you are trying to use GPS at the same time and have a quick turn to make because of the lag. The next turn might come up and you still have the Tazer on the screen. Or, you are at a light and the turn signal is on and you want to change something on the screen. You have to X out of the screen first. Secondly, it is not ideal for the trail, especially if you are not running with doors. Not so much for not backing into things as for making sure the guy behind you is still there.

I tried it for more than a year, loved the wide open windshield, but not sure the good of that outweighed the other issues. More importantly, my kids are wanting to drive this on the road and I needed to make sure they had easy access to seeing what was behind them.

Completely give up all of the functionally of the Uconnect? No thanks.

May have been answered but how do you open or remove the cover over the rear view mirror mount on the black box the is over the ACC stuff on the windshield. I can get he lower part to pop out but the top doesn’t want to come out. Don’t want to do something stupid and break it.
image.jpg
No need to take it completely off, just remove the four plastic screws and let it dangle if needed but once the smaller plastic part is removed you can get access to the three screws to remove the mirror mount.

Looking down at the radio instead of up at the mirror seems like you would be changing your field of view a lot. Not sure that's an ideal situation.

Just chiming in.

Had a DVR mirror on my ‘18 and it came with its own Jeep bracket so you can swap out the OEM and reuse the hardware to mount. One of the cleanest solutions for dash recording and seeing out the back.

Amazon also sells the mount itself: the
mirror bracket is 22mm if I remember correctly. The rake sweeps forward towards you more so than OEM. You can also sorta build your own mount by buying the mirror delete bracket from CMM and using ram arms/joints.

Many of the digital mirror sellers on Amazon are the same shops you can find on AliExpress. The company I used was called and most mirrors are 10-12” screens. Your sun visor will hit the new mirror if you are still using it/ positioning it normally with the screen turned off. I had mine positioned dead center to avoid this and ran the dvr screen on all the time. I also had my rear camera installed on the rear center of the sports bar to prevent the glare you’d get from installing the camera on the exterior.

For the new Jeep I went w/ a 8” lcd screen mirror w/ 4 inputs but it’s not a dvr so the dash cam is mounted separately ??‍♂

Has anyone mounted the rear camera on the front bumper as a front camera to use to pick lines going through rocks and such? I think this would be great for offroading.

Wouldn't a trail cam being rendered somewhere else / anywhere else be more useful? The Uconnect or something else on the dash could be significantly larger / clearer.

I don't think the trail cam works with the 7 inch radio. This could be a poor man's version of the trail cam. Just not sure if the resolution of this rear camera would work well for this.

There is a trail cam tap available for the 8.4 radio, not sure about the 7". This was one of the first mods I did. Easy to search the forum and you will find it. I will say that the front cam tap does not provide nearly the quality of image as the rear cam on the same screen do to the tap vs an actual plug.

The rear view mirror image is super clean, the one I got has an option to show the front facing camera or the rear and both have better image quality then the 8.4.

Turning it off isn't really an option for me with the 37" spare and fuel cell blocking just about all of the rear window.
It also records front and rear.
Hey Ratbert. What mirror did you end up with? Noticed we have the same AEV setup with 37 and fuel caddy. Did you remove and replace oem mirror? Any issues installing. No adaptive for me. Have to do something as I smoked a junker at the gas station. Could see the little jalopy at all.

I've got the one referenced by OP. Yeah, it works, has everything required for your Jeep, and someone wouldn't notice that it's not OEM unless the Jeep was on and they're looking directly at it, but everything else about it is mediocre. Definitely not great at night and have to use your side mirrors to get any idea about how close someone is.

Is there an all-in-one solution for a front cam / rear cam / dash cam? Reverse would be from the 8.4". I am starting to travel more and want to be able to see in-front of me and behind me better (digital) while also having a dashcam option while still having the 8.4. I think the front cam input on the 8.4 is regular video not HD. Which if I did hook up the Tazer front cam to the 8.4 that would be an option.

Which is a good dash cam option?

I need a mounting solution for the Tazer front cam. I was thinking in front of the hoop on the middle hole or a license plate frame cam? Thoughts?
