To those here that are discounting Gale Banks and his knowledge/accomplishments and more specifically his designs, I ask you to provide your credentials. His are widely known in the racing and performance products world.

Take a little time to compare your Wikipedia page to Gale’s. I will post his here but I’m sorry I couldn’t find yours.

I could go on but I found his videos on the subject and on others, to be interesting and informative. Personally I don’t know the guy but I respect him from what I have seen. He is no snake oil salesman or a shade tree mechanic. My two cents.

Without established standards and objective third party verification of the testing results, it is 100% anecdotal. Like it or not, that is how it is and being known is not a substitute for verifiable and repeatable data driven results.

He created his own standard and his own results--in the scientific world that is never accepted without a third party being involved otherwise, it's all marketing.

What did he prove? What problem did he solve? If his videos were anything other than a glorified infomercial for his new cover and had third parties involved, it would be a hell of a lot more believable.

Lastly, no one here needs to show any credentials, because no one here is selling anything nor are they making such statements.

what trim eliminated the plug? nothing wrong with those skid plates. i just installed them too.

The wide tube front axles on the XR's don't have a drain plug. Just installed the ARB covers front and rear that Santa brought me- definitely a step up from stock!

I took that as both drain plugs where eliminated. off the top of my head I remember from last week the rear has one, but yet, he's right the front is gone.

Bottom line, it's never a good idea to blindly trust someone who has a vested interest in selling you something. They may or may not be telling you the whole story. That's why it's imperative to get independent verification.

I’ll be putting my Metal Cloak skid on the rear diff once I have a nice day to paint it black. The rear diff on my ‘22 XR does have a drain plug on the driver’s side of the pumpkin.

I agree with all of your points. And if anyone thinks research & engineering are not connected to product commercialization... they are fooling themselves.

Unless something has changed NV covers are made of carbon steel and not stainless. If they are stainless, they would be no different than regular steel, just more corrosion resistant and perhaps slightly softer depending on the grade of stainless.

Other than stainless preventing rust, couldn’t tell you pros/cons to other iron and steel diff covers. I’ll leave that to others here.

As for aluminum, I would stay far away from that if you’re looking for protection. Aluminum is softer than steel and more prone to cracking from impacts. Weight, flexibility, and corrosion resistance are its typical benefits over steel/iron, but it doesn’t really have a place on a Jeep differential. I love the idea of aluminum for other components, though.

If it never leaves the pavement, aluminum will be fine.
