Looking for opinions on the 2020 JLU Diesel Jeep. Considering flipping my 2020 JLU for the 2020 JLUD.
Comments appreciated

I had one and loved it. The only time I was like hm... I wish I had gas was a crazy snow storm. I was pretty much crawling on the highway it was -35 and the engine temp just kept dipping. Nothing ever happened, it was hours like that. It just gave me another thing I was a little worried about. Either then that, I would do it again. Insane power, awesome mileage, not loud, and doesn't smell like a diesel. There is a recall on the fuel pump. I bought it before that knowing it had "issues," still worth it.

Diesels aren’t for everyone. I love mine, but it is a different experience. I’ve taken on all maintenance. I added a scanguage ii so i could read emissions info and know when it is is regen. I fuel up at truck stops which is also where I buy def. If you’re willing to learn and do it yourself the diesel is the best motor ever offered imho.

Being from Northern Ontario you get used to plugging in. Odd the temp dropped like that
I think this JLUD is outside the parameters of the recall. I will make sure at the dealership it hasn’t been recalled.
My 3.6 has had several issues both mechanically broken plastic components and the dreaded paint blistering of the 4 doors and hood, although all under warranty

All JLUDs will be under recall at some point. They just haven't gotten around to issuing for all the vehicles, for some reason.

I will note that if you're willing to put up with the 1% risk of 2-3 months without a vehicle while they repair, it probably isn't a huge issue. Costs should be born by warranty and they should presumably have a solution (Bosh 3 pump?) by the time you are out of warranty.

Wife and I love our diesel. The fuel range is awesome, the power is great, and for off-roading it’s just a kick ass engine. Rock crawling with the Rubicon gear ratios I barely touch the throttle and it motors over terrain. We spent this past weekend towing a little camper 100 miles up into the mountains with extremely heavy stop and go traffic going up. Then spent the next day rock crawling and cruising trails. Drove into town for dinner, still had a third of a tank so we filled up. Drove back up off road to our campsite, then spent the next day rock crawling and off roading until late afternoon, hooked up the trailer and drove home. Still had a half tank of fuel. Ridiculous and awesome.

Sure, the diesel has its issues and more involved maintenance but if you are a DIY person it’s easy enough.

I have a JLUD and love it; I have driven an EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee since I bought it new in 2014. I love these diesels.

if you plan to tow heavy in the mountains, there can be overheating issues (most have experienced it at least once). I think that’s the biggest issue that I’ve seen most complain about.

The power is perfect. And the mileage per gallon is such a nice bonus.

The only significant downside (for me at least) is that not all stations have diesel. That will most likely get worse as more companies drop their diesels.

It is, however, an awesome engine. See @ChuckQue's post.

VERY intelligent answer, for me I ultimately decided the 392 offered the familiarity I wanted plus a lot more fun.

If the 392 wasn’t an option, I was fully ready to order a diesel, and I’m sure I would have been happy with it(didn’t like the other options anyway).

Get a gasser. Diesels are great for tow vehicles (have had several), but the current 2.0T and 3.6 have plenty of power and will cost much less over time. Gasoline engines have become more efficient while diesels less so because of emission requirements. As for which gas engine, both are fine (similar power), I'd probably lean towards the 2.0T, though we have several of both.
