I took my 2020 JLU Sport Altitude to the dealership for the first free oil change. They gave me a coupon for 15% off accessories so I figured I'd have a trailer hitch installed while I was there. The dealership informed me that the oil techs would change my oil then they'd add my hitch which meant 1.5 hour wait for oil change then an additional hour wait for the install. I said ok I had planned to wait anyway since the dealership was 30 miles away. They tell me the vehicle is done around 11:30 and I do a walk around to make sure everything is ok only to find there's no wiring for trailer lights. The s
Not sure what happened. It looked ok when I proofed it. But anyway. I went to the parts counter to see what happened only to find out that it is sold seperately. The accessory tech didn't mention that the harness didn't come with it. They called the tech and he's out to lunch, and they tell me that the harness costs as much as the hitch!. So I have a hitch that may cause me to get a ticket if I use it. It seems that almost every trip that I make to the dealership ends in dissappointment. I'll probably end up taking it to a local truck accessory shop.

And even after the 15% discount you probably paid triple (after labor) what an aftermarket hitch would cost. They don't call them the "stealership" for nothing. You asked for a trailer hitch, they did as you requested.

A lot of people install hitches without wiring harnesses to hold bike racks, wheelchair carriers, hitch baskets, etc.

The lessons here are:
- double check what it is that you’re purchasing before you purchase it. As already mentioned, many people use the hitch for bike racks or other accessories and don’t tow anything.

- $15% off was probably still more than what the hitch & wire harness would cost online.

- Don’t pay dealer labor rates to install parts that are easily installed yourself

I would tell them to take it off and refund your money back or go out there and take it off and attempt to return it if they refuse… I done this with snake oil window ”clear” tint and I did eventually get my money back.

This was the view through my prescription sunglasses.

The harness for the towing wires will require the removal of trim panels from the front to the rear along the lower part of one side and removing the front right flare(fender). It will take leaving it at the dealer most of a day or longer. It's a big job.

Yes and even though I was sold this fancy clear window tint that was supposed to cut down glare, it didn’t and it was actually worse. I was also wearing my sunglasses and should have warned me. Personally, I didn’t think about it. I go to the window tint place, let them tell me what‘s the best for my use and go about it. I’m not going to waste my time becoming an expert on something so cheap. But as soon as I seen that, I knew exactly what the problem is. It’s a common problem in some aircrafts with polarized sunglasses.

They refused to make it right, I tried to give them the opportunity. But they kept talking down to me and reaching out to the owner explains to me where his employees attitude comes from... I disputed it with AMEX and received a refund for the entire amount; I originally only wanted a refund for the windshield part.

Original thread I posted about it. I posted this because it can come up with Google search... To me, lots of attitude for someone with squeegee and a water bottle.

Not on the updated harness; has separate part numbers. New one goes along the passenger frame rail.

Does the fender and liner still have to come off to get access to the engine compartment?

It would make it easier, but it comes off pretty easy. I have not installed it yet, I have it and may end up selling it along with my hitch.

But lately, for stuff the requires me to get under the fender liners. I learned to do it without taking them off. There’s a lot of room between the frame rails and liner, more so towards the back.
