Then the vinegar and cloth (sock, scrubbing pad) idea should work.Definitely corrosion on the aluminum drum/spool or whatever you call it.
Had to look up aluminum oxidation; apparently, like silver, there are several types. More proof I'm an EE, not a materials guy.
Curious to see what Warn says. S'pose could range from "benign, ignore it" to "wipe it off" to "OMG, you need to buy a new drum now, here's a link!" Not sure if the drum is covered by their lifetime warranty?
