I have a 2022 JLUR (sarge green) that has some corrosion issues. It has 55K miles on it with the 5 year warranty expiring in Jan. '27.

A Jeep dealer in NH has been good to work with and advised that Jeep has agreed to replace my entire hood and do corrective paint work on all of the door seems.

Buuuut....they are telling me the door hinges only have a 3 year corrosion warranty under TSB 31-001-25B and TSB 31-001-26A. The hinges have some issues starting to show, so this was disappointing.

Has anyone had experience with this? If I can't get it covered under warranty, what should I expect it to cost to fix and what are my options (repair vs aftermarket parts)?

@kah.mun.rah do you know if that warranty should apply to a 2022 or is that only for current year models? That warranty online specifies body panels and the dealer seems to be adamant that hinges are separate.

@JeepCares is there any documentation or literature that you can share with my dealer? They're pretty adamant that the current TSB will not cover the hinges as they are saying they're only good for 3 years because it's specifically body panels that are covered for longer (5 years).

It might be for current year vehicles and not transferable to the past, but in the same argument, they shouldn't change your qualification for the 5 year warranty set in 2022 for the future.

The 2022 warranty (below) describes it as "finish painted and that someone can see when walking around the vehicle" covered for 5 years. The warranty does refer to "sheet metal" so maybe that is where the hinge falls into gray territory. If the corrosion is from a rock chipping the hinge paint and then the metal underneath rusting, that is on you (Section 3.5 below) but if it is obvious that the rust is coming from under the paint with no external influence, I would say that is on them.

Super helpful! It's not from a rock chip.

Where did you pull this doc from? I'm wondering if I should push to have the dealer try to submit for the door hinges and worst Mopar can say is no.

I just had rear doors and the hood painted about 1 month before the warranty expired for corrosion. I went to the dealer, they ordered the hinges and the shims and told me to go to their Mopar Authorized Auto Body Shop to make an appointment to do the work. Two weeks later I get my jeep back and everything is good. I guess I will have to pay for the front doors myself when they go bad.

Your dealer didnt tell you that the hinges were only good for 3 years?

No, corrosion is five years with unlimited mileage on 2021 Jeeps. I would go to the dealer and "discuss" the TSB with the GM of the store.. Speak to another dealer in your area as well about their policy. Stellantis did not paint the inside of the hinges on at the assembly line so you have corrosion on thousands of wranglers. I think your dealer may not be well informed as to the facts of this issue.

AI Overview:

Jeep Wrangler (JL) and Gladiator (JT) models from 2018–2024 face significant, documented door and hood hinge corrosion issues caused by galvanic corrosion between steel hinges and aluminum doors. While a class-action lawsuit has been filed, Jeep has largely addressed this via a 5-year corrosion warranty and Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) authorizing repairs/replacements. [1, 2, 3]
Key Information on the Jeep Hinge Corrosion Issue:
  • Affected Vehicles: 2018–2024 Jeep Wrangler (JL) and 2020–2024 Jeep Gladiator (JT).
  • Cause: Galvanic (dissimilar metal) corrosion occurs when steel hinges are attached to aluminum panels, resulting in paint bubbling, rust, and cracking around hinges.
  • Class Action Status: A class-action lawsuit has been filed against FCA (Stellantis) regarding this issue.
  • Repair Status: Stellantis has issued TSBs that authorize dealerships to repair or replace the panels.
  • Warranty: The corrosion is generally covered under the 5-year (unlimited miles) factory corrosion warranty. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Important Tips for Owners:
  • Inspect Immediately: Check all door hinges, hood hinges, and the tailgate for bubbling paint.
  • Report Early: Because it is a 5-year warranty, get it documented by a dealer before the coverage expires.
  • TSB Documentation: Refer to NHTSA TSB MC-11006237-0001, which outlines the repair process.
  • Be Persistent: Some dealers may initially deny the claim, but known corrosion should be covered, according to Reddit threads and dealer reports. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

If you register here with your VIN# you can access your vehicle specific warranty information.
https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/vehicle-information.html

Otherwise, here is a link to a PDF version of a 2022 4xe Wrangler. Not your specific trim level but the corrosion information in 2.2 and 3.5 should be applicable to your 2022 Wrangler. https://vehicleinfo.mopar.com/asset...gler_4xe/P140244_22_JL_H_GW_EN_US_DIGITAL.pdf

If they continue to push back on the hinges, I would see if they can compromise and if you buy replacement hinges, they paint them for free when they are painting the other repair items. If you do that, I would get the aftermarket aluminum ones.

Yep, they just redid my 2022 Rubicon good but I had to pay for 2 cash for hinges! The warranty doesn't cover attachments.

The last time I looked, new hinges with the zinc shim were less than $10 each. At that price I would buy replacements for any hinges that aren't warrantied so I will have all updated hinges and everything gets matching paint.

You're looking at some serious money there...

Maybe, but when my 2020 JT doors were approved for replacement without replacing the hinges, the price was $35 each to get the updated hinges. So I think less than $10 each is a bargain.

Cost me $300 to have 2 hinges removed, prepped, painted and reinstalled on my 2022 when they did my hood.
