I was having some pre-detonation/low speed ping and after installing a mishimoto catch can last week it's completely resolved. I opened the catch can this morning and a good bit of oil came out.. I haven't seen anything like this since an engine with massive blowby back in the 80's.. It's hard to believe the motor was designed to work this way. I only have 9k miles on it. Is everyone who's installed a catch can catching this much oil?

I understand but the low speed pinging was driving me nuts.. it was definitely from the oil dilution.

In my sig, the 3.6l pentastar. I guess I'll just call this a win and enjoy the resolution. My low speed ping is completely gone. I do offroad several times a week in CO so I'm driving up and down some extreme angles. That could have some effect on how much is pushed through the vent.

Why didn't you take it to the dealer before adding aftermarket devices?

Exactly! Dozens of low speed ping threads on this forum. I haven't seen a single resolution, other than 'works as designed' and 'some low speed ping is acceptable'. I've owned a LOT of vehicles, mostly modified and have never dealt with low speed ping like this jeep. It's probably a tuning issue (epa, mpg and emissions) but there are no aftermarket tuning options yet.

This is def the same situation yet 21st century. It's a tuning issue no doubt. I'm unsure whether it's altitude specific (I live at 8000ft) or the offroading I do pushing more oil through the system.

I also have a manual transmission which seems to exacerbate this problem. But it's a non-issue now so I will carry on and remove the catch can if I need service. I do have a 125k mile bumper to bumper warranty through my lien-holder.. once aftermarket tuning is available I'll be doing that as well.
