Hi,

Thanks for updating us. I can see you made contact with your case manager on June 19th via email. Have you been able to speak to her since? If not, can you please let me know the best time to give you a call, I would like to add this to your case.

Hi Alison, thanks for quick reply. No, I’ve heard nothing from the case manager. I’m available after 6pm eastern time today if someone is able to call me.
Thanks,
Scott.

Hi Marc,

The all-new Uconnect 5 is more connected, helpful, content-rich and adds greater personalization, making it the most advanced Uconnect system ever. With this being a brand new radio, this, unfortunately, will not be available as a software update. The Uconnect 5 with wireless Apple CarPlay will be coming in select 2021 models.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Alison

Hi Alison/JeepCares,
Could you please share which 2021 models will receive the updated radio and UConnect system? Is it specific models or vehicles that have the Premium Audio option?

Thanks

I dug a little deeper on Google as well and can’t find any evidence that they’re going to offer UConnect 5 in any 2021 Wranglers contrary to what JeepCares mentioned earlier in this thread. I wonder if they’re going to offer it in models that are launched later in 2021 like the 4Xe or other rumored special editions.

Try pulling the fuse to your radio/display for a minute, then plug it back in. The labels to which fuse are under the fuse box cover. My bluetooth and Apple Play was acting weird initially, but ever since I removed and reinserted the fuse, no problems. I also found a large percentage of the relays and fuses were super loose and would snap in when I pushed on them.
You sonnuva...genius.

My UConnect 8.4 had recently performed an Over-The-Air (OTA) update which caused my Apple CarPlay to act weird w/my IPhone 11 Pro Max. Specifically...it stopped "verbalizing Siri"; i.e. messages wouldn't read out loud, no Siri feedback, etc. Everything else was fine...music & podcasts played back normal, etc.

I kept going back & forth w/several dealerships on trying to get someone to fix it. I wanted them to revert it back to the originally installed UConnect firmware. One dealership service dept. said I had to contact UConnect and they could do it w/another OTA update, etc. Other dealerships had no idea how to go about troubleshooting it.

I did your suggestion...pulled fuse #11, gave it a minute, firmly popped it back in...and voila, back to normal again.

Alison @JeepCares and the group following this thread, here is an update. CarPlay still crashes and I’ve basically heard nothing from FCA Customer Care.

Since opening the case 7 weeks ago I spoke once 3 weeks ago with the ā€œcase managerā€ and then received an email yesterday from her saying she has tried to contact my local Dealer for 3 week but been unable to reach them.

REALLY???

This poor service would be laughable if it wasn’t a serious issue.

Carplay crashes and then occasionally comes back on overriding Bluetooth and at a different volume. Very distracting while driving.

Are you able to help me get some assistance?

Have you tried the following setting on the iPhone:
- Settings/Face ID & Passcode/USB Accessories (set it to off...i.e. not green)

More information on what this option does here.

Just checked and my IOS reads ā€œturn off to prevent USB accessories from accessing dataā€¦ā€. Mine was turned ā€œonā€ meaning allow accessories to access data which seems like the correct setting. Does that make sense to you? FYI I’m running an iPhone 8+ and IOS 13.5.1.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I’m really frustrated with this problem!

Have you tried pulling the radio fuse to reboot/reset it? Have you tried a different USB cable? Some of the cheaper USB cables have been know to cause similar issues.

I'm still having the issue where Carplay randomly disconnects. The other day, it told me "Device not supported" when I tried to plug/ unplug and select USB 2. It did it today and seemed to falter with the movement of the cable, So I'm switching to USB1 in the dash to see if the issue persists, and to eliminate the possibility of multiple issues.

I'm past frustrated with UConnect as pretty much everything I've read online is "UConnect software structure is an unwieldy, archaic dumpster fire with questionable parts. Next gen should solve it", which is infuriating to read as someone who has a little bit of experience with software development.

I'm considering doing the Wireless Carplay Mod to resolve this issue, but outside of that- the only real option would be hacking your UConnect to "fix" it, and I don't see anything like that happening easily

Have you tried a different USB cable? Have you tried pulling the radio fuse? Someone reported very similar symptoms that you are describing and fixed it by rebooting the radio.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions, I’ve tried 3 OEM Apple cables and 7 aftermarket cables. I’ve also tried 2 other iPhones running different IOS versions.

My iPhone and cable have never had any problem in rental cars with CarPlay.

I’ve pulled fuses, tried center console as well as both USB and USB-C ports on the dash.

Sometimes CarPlay works; I just finished a
5,000 mile 2-week overland from Florida to NM, AZ, UT, CO ... camping with rooftop tent, drove over Imogene Pass, Corkscrew Pass, did most of the Alpine Loop... and I used Google Maps and Gaia on CarPlay the whole way until the last 12 hours of the trip when CarPlay crashed. From that point it was as if my phone was not connected — except that it was charging. I rebooted the phone, changed cables, shut the Jeep off for 30 minutes. No luck.

I appreciate any suggestions. I just want it to work. For $55K I expect CarPlay to work. My phone and cable work perfectly in my 2 other vehicles with CarPlay.

Yep. I've tried restarting the phone as well. I've tried 3 different cables (cheapo, Anker, and OEM Apple) in all locations, as well as connecting via Bluetooth previously, and had the same results (Unit would freeze, shut down, disconnect, etc). When I brought it in for the clutch recall, I had the dealer inspect it. They pulled the fuse (or disconnected from the battery I'm guessing) because it forgot my phone in the Bluetooth Devices. Now, I'm starting another round of trouble shooting. If there are no issues with USB1, then I know it's a connection at USB2. If the issue persists, then check with Bluetooth.

If that doesn't solve it? Ripping the radio out and lighting it on fire... or something. I don't know. Based on my own experience with software and electronics, and what I've read about this, I've got some guesses as to what could be going on... but it's just my own, off the cuff speculation.

@RubiSc0tt

I have not read any more of what you said your issue is ...... anyway, do follow the info here and see if it helps in regards to your Carplay issue..
