I just found this thread and the discussion on fuses was new for me so I checked and I was able to push down many fuses ... maybe 8 or 10 fuses including 11, 51 & 102. I’ll report back if it helps. FYI here’s my sad story:

2018 JLUR and since day 1 CarPlay has intermittently shut off. Even worse, Sometimes the radio goes black and completely shuts off and then restarts WHILE I AM DRIVING!

I’ve tried 9 different cables including 4 OEM Apple cables. I have an iPhone 8 Plus running latest IOS (now 13.something).

I’ve brought it in to the dealer three times and they just say “you phone is too new”, and show me the uconnect site which says it is only compatible with iOS 11.3 or older.

@JeepCares is that the best FCA can do? A $55K jeep and that is the response?

Anyone else experience similar?
I would like to open a case for you and get you to a Uconnect specialist. If you'd like, please send us your VIN, email, phone number, and mileage to get started.

Thank you Alison, I will. To update the group: I check every fuse with extra attention to F11, F51 and F102. No improvement.

I started my jeep today and CarPlay started working.

Three minutes later I tap the screen to start Spotify and it started playing my music.

Everything seemed fine for about five minutes and then the music stopped. CarPlay still functioned in that I could change the screens but the music would not play.

Then about 30 seconds later the screen went black.

About 30 seconds after that the radio came back to life but CarPlay was no longer an option on the icons at the bottom right of the screen.

My phone continue to charge and I was able to connect through Bluetooth.

This pattern has repeated itself literally hundreds of times. In this case I was using an Apple OEM cable with the USB-C connection.

Soooooo frustrating!

After years with Android I just switched to iPhone (I switch back and forth every so often out of boredom) and notice my music will just stop playing on CarPlay. It'll play a playlist (download so no connection needed) and sometimes it'll play for a few songs sometimes it'll just stop. Everything else works but just randomly stops playing music. Definitely seems worse than Android Auto which I had no issues with for 2 years.

I’ve heard similar from others regarding Android vs IOS. With respect, and IMHO, my issue is different.

I travel frequently (at least I did before COVID) and use the same iPhone and cable in every rental car. I merely take my cable from my Jeep when I park at the airport and use it with my phone in my rental car. I usually rent Fords to get CarPlay (I rely on Waze a lot). I don’t think I ever had this issue with any rental (if I did then it was so infrequent that I can’t recall the event).

Hopefully @JeepCares can help.

Thanks all for this info. I just picked my 2020 JLURD and carplay died on the way home. Pushed in the fuses, relays, and reset the radio fuse...worked like a charm.

I was contacted by a JeepCares case manager (voicemail) and I’ve called back (Voicemail) - so far no help.

I did get another phone, an iPhone 6 running IOS 12 (OEM Apple cable) and it also crashed - first after a 60minute drive..

My next drive was 2 days later and it crashes within 2 minutes!

This is sooooo frustrating!

Hope @JeepCares calls back soon!

Hi,

I've looked in your case and made a note to have your case manager reach out. You should be hearing from him shortly.

Hi @JeepCares. Is there any chance Jeep will be adding wireless CarPlay to the radios any time soon? Apple has had this functionality available for more than 4 years now, and it would avoid many of these USB connection issues.

And if so, hopefully Jeep will do this as a software update, since wireless CarPlay uses existing bluetooth and wifi hardware, so no new hardware should be required. It would nice if customers with existing Uconnect radios were able to take advantage of this, if delivered, through a simple software update. -fyi

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be a new feature on the Uconnect 5 system.

Thanks for the response, Alison, but 3 specific questions about this:

- Will wireless be available as a software update, or will it only be available with the purchase of a new car system?

- By Uconnect 5 do you you mean the 5" radio, versus 7" and 8.4"? If so, why will Jeep be offering wireless on its base radio only and not on the higher end option radios?

- When is wireless expected to be available?

Thanks again,

Marc

Hi Marc,

The all-new Uconnect 5 is more connected, helpful, content-rich and adds greater personalization, making it the most advanced Uconnect system ever. With this being a brand new radio, this, unfortunately, will not be available as a software update. The Uconnect 5 with wireless Apple CarPlay will be coming in select 2021 models.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Alison, just want to provide you and the group here an update.

It has been 24 days since you opened the case for me and I still have not spoken with the case manager. Every time I call it immediately goes to voice mail. I’ve left many voicemails. I’ve received 3 calls from the case manager over the last 24 days - all during working hours and when I call back ... I get voicemail.

When I emailed you about this issue you told me you would elevate this to a supervisor but I’ve received no such contact.

Carplay continues to crash. I’ve been to my local dealer and have this “crashing” documented.

I simply want this fixed — before my warranty runs out!

@JeepCares Can you please help out?

Hi,

Thanks for updating us. I can see you made contact with your case manager on June 19th via email. Have you been able to speak to her since? If not, can you please let me know the best time to give you a call, I would like to add this to your case.
