Let me preface this by saying that I have a 2021 rubicon with the 8.4 inch screen and about 17k miles and prior to now, I have never had any issues with carplay. With that said, yesterday I started my jeep up like any other day, and after plugging my phone into the USB A port below the center screen, carplay just wouldn't boot up. I tried plugging my phone into the USB C port and it still wouldn't open. After soft resetting my screen multiple times and letting the car go through multiple sleep cycles, it still wouldn't open. I have an old backup iphone that still works and somehow carplay boots up after pressing "USB 1" on the screen multiple times. After plugging in my old phone, carplay will work on my current phone for a little bit, then it just quits. I thought it may be an iphone-specific issue but I'm really not sure, thoughts?

Try these steps:

  1. Reboot the phone.
  2. Go into Settings --> General --> CarPlay.
  3. Your vehicle should be listed there. Click on it, followed by Forget This Car.
  4. In UConnect, Smartphone Projection Manager, delete any and all devices listed there. (You may see more than one, even if you have only paired your smartphone).
  5. Reconnect your phone to the vehicle/Uconnect.

Also, it's a long shot, but take a toothpick and gently clean out the port where you connect your power cable. Lint builds up in there and can cause intermittent issues. I had to do that a while back when the charging seemed sporadic. It was amazing how much lint I found in there.

Also try a new cord if you have not already.

Long story short, +1 on the toothpick cleaning of the phone's charging port.

I have a 2023 Sahara Altitude, and from day one, CarPlay has either sporadically frozen or disconnected, (the UC screen tells me to connect a device). Took it to the dealer today and they basically said they could and would do nothing about it and that it's probably a version compatibility issue between UC4 and my iPhone (both of which have the most up-to-date iOS version). There's no TSB, so there's nothing they will do - they just blame my phone. They say that I have to use an OEM Apple cable (which I've tried along with aftermarket cables). I've tried the port in the dash and in the console to the same effect.

Anyway, I cleaned the charging port on my phone with a toothpick, and sure enough, there was a piece of pocket lint packed in the very bottom so tight, it felt like it was solid, which must have prevented the cable from going in all the way. I just took a 30-minute drive and had no issues which is a record for me, so I think I'm going to call that problem solved. Not sure if that will solve anyone else's problem, but it solved mine (knock on wood). Thanks for the reminder.

I also often encounter this problem, usually because the data cable connection is not stable. I used to change a data cable to solve it, but after a while the link became unstable again. Later, I bought a wireless carplay adapter, which solved this problem perfectly, goodbye to the damn data cable.

This happens to me a lot too, wireless connection seems like a good idea, what adapter are you using?

I bought carlinkit4.0 and have used it for about 4 months, it works very well, I am very satisfied.
I've just ordered it after reading your post here. Thanks so much!

I think service is more important than low price. I saw a lot of people complaining that they bought from Amazon and couldn't get the corresponding after-sales help, so in the end, most of them chose to return the adapter to Amazon, the other of them encountered problems after a few months, but Amazon ignored them at all. That's probably why Amazon's rating is only 3.5.
I got my carlinkit 3.0 from carlinkitcarplay.com and they share a discount code for me. It is so nice.

Out of curiosity, did you recently get a new phone or upgrade to the latest iOS? I recently changed from iPhone XS which worked flawlessly with CarPlay, to iPhone 14 with the latest iOS 16 and now my CarPlay will only stay connected for 1-3 minutes before disconnecting. I tried to delete the CarPlay profile from my phone, no luck. I have heard of others having CarPlay issues with iOS 16 as well.

I realize it's a first-world problem but still frustrating, especially when it was working fine before.

Didn’t have any problems connecting currently, but I definitely cleaned out a bunch of lint from my bellybutton…I mean the charging port ?

Holy cow ?‍♂

Mine did the exact same thing. Did you figure out any way to fix it?
