I basically have paint bubbling on all 8 of my door hinges. That being said the hinges on the hood look ok for now. I am wondering if I should jump the gun and pay to have them replaced. My 5 year rust warranty is up within the next few months. I believe someone mentioned that new hinges come with some sort of metal spacer which I would assume helps to prevent the galvanic corrosion which is what appears to be going on here...
I haven't seen a single person post a picture of the spacer once the door is removed. I don't believe this is true. I think they're confusing the primer / bare metal under the hinge for a spacer because it's a different color.

Do we know if the “new” hinges have any improvement in design or materials vs the old ones? If not it seems kinda silly to replace like for like

If I’m not mistaken, there is a zinc shim, that sits between the door panel, and the new hinge.

I had been looking out for paint bubbling on my 2020 JLUR for a couple of years now. Didn't appear to have any until my wife noticed some bubbling on the passenger side edge of the hood working up towards the Rubicon sticker, last September 2023. After that I looked all over again after washing the Jeep and found some on the hinges, and see a couple of other small bubble areas on the edge of the driver side and front edge of hood.

It took me many calls to several dealerships, several not very helpful chats with Jeep Cares and over four months to actually get an appointment for them to photograph the Jeep and submit a claim for repaint/part replacement. The tech washed my car and went over the whole jeep. He found some defects that I missed. They are asking Jeep to replace the hood, pay for repainting the hood hinges and door hinges and potentially replacing the door panels.

I am told by the dealership, and my Jeep Cares case manager confirmed, that it may be a year before I get my Jeep's paint fixed. My warranty is up this summer but Jeep Cares confirmed I am now locked in for coverage for this, so I urge you all to get to a dealership if you have this issue and are still under warranty!

I keep holding off out of laziness and it’s not getting any better. Tomorrow I’m calling around local dealerships for documentation and a plan.

Don't believe it's available separately... It's a redesigned hinge assembly. Unless you're very creative, and could make a shim from a sheet of a zinc material...
I see. I’m thinking one of these forum fabricator guys showing off their metalwork gear needs to clone the shim, knock out a bunch n sell em to us cheap

I’ve got some half doors to repaint, wouldn’t mind slipping some shims in there while I’m at it. But the doors are brand new, not about to buy 4 new hinges just yet

I called two dealerships that said they can’t help as they don’t have a body shop. I called a third who said they recently closed their shop but they might be able to help as they now outsource. He took my info and said they’d call me Monday.?

Update- The service rep called me at 9am Monday. I’m going in for documentation and planning on Friday.

Wouldn't your new door's hinges already have the shims? Otherwise your looking at about $70 per door for new hinges. Also, for maximum affect the zinc shims need metal to metal contact which may not be practical with a repaint.

I am surprised magnesium anodes are not mentioned more often. Magnesium anodes are standard protection for aluminum boats instead of zinc.

Ok. That’s not too bad for new ones. If anyone finds the new part # I’ll probably just buy them.
Yes I wondered if these on the half doors were the updated version also, they were bought new in box from another owner who never used them; but it doesn’t look like there’s any raised gap/spacing vs mine from 2018

I have a 2021 JL and finally got my Jeep to the dealer to get my corrosion issues addressed. I was "told" they replaced the hinges that were corroding. I requested to see the old replaced hinges and they said they sent them back for warranty issues. However, I have yet to see any other JL with orange peel looking hinges. I swear they just took them off and repainted them and did a crappy job at that. Also had the hood and passenger door corrected as well. Can't prove anything but defiantly not happy with results.

I don't think in 2021 they had the new style hinges yet, so there would be a visible difference between the new hinges and the old ones. The old hinges are flat on the back, the new hinges have a small offset ridge around the perimeter and will have a small gap around the perimeter when they are installed. Here's a pic with the old style on top and the new style on the bottom.

New style also appears to be painted to match before being bolted on vs old style painted after being bolted to the door.
