I got my Jeep back today, 3 weeks to the day. From what I’ve seen so far they did a good job and addressed all the spots we discussed. Hopefully the issue doesn’t return anytime soon!
I’d invest in Chemical Guys Paint Sealer. Protect your paint from rust. Seal all nicks and deep scratches with a clear coat pen to prevent further rust issues.

Yeah, a paint sealer wont stop galvanic corrosion.
Clear Coat Pen will prevent moisture from getting under your paint if you apply it as soon as you see a scratch is deep, or your door hinge gets chipped from taking your doors off. I’ve used it has worked so far. I use Chemical Guys Jet Seal to prevent moisture damage and protect my paint from fading as it ages.

Much of this corrosion isn't the result of a chip or scratch. It starts in random spots like door and hood edges in addition to the door, hood and tailgate hinges. It's galvanic corrosion, not rust.

This is galvanic corrosion because of the aluminum doors and steel bolts. Once it starts it is almost impossible to stop it. If they can clean it all out and epoxy paint the area it MAY stop it. But they absolutely have to put in new bolts! The bolts have a coating on them that helps prevent this from happening, if they re use the bolts it will 100% do the same thing again.
Did you take yours in for repair? If you did, is it holding up?

Hey GraniteJLU,

We certainly understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern, as they are in the best position to provide assistance. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

Hey jeep cares, what is this problem, why are people having so much trouble getting it fixed?

Ya think??

I mean people pay on average 40-60,000 dollars for a Jeep that is literally rotting away.
People are mad as hell. And they have every right to be.

I wonder if any sacrificial anodes could be used to stop the galvanic corrosion. This is used to prevent corrosion in ships/submarines. Not sure it would work in this situation.
Interesting, because I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Couldn't zinc sacrificial anodes be attached in several locations around the vehicle (under hood, doors, etc)? Should be easy to sand the vehicle in installation spots and attach to put the anode "in the circuit" so to speak. Would cost Stellantis very little as preventative or following repair work.

*Note: I'm no metallurgist and only know a little about these due to boating, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Can't tell you..shhh
Picked my jeep up at the dealer Thursday and will be dropping it off again Monday. The dealer told me all 4 doors, the hood, and all 8 hinges would be getting painted by their outside contract body shop. Inspected one of the "painted" hinges and it still had corrosion on it. Two doors still have spots as well. They only repainted 2 doors and the hood and guess which 2 doors still have spots . They already had it for 2 weeks, let's see how long they have it this time.

I drop my Jeep off for paint warranty for the 2nd time on Monday. I have rust on the hood, the door hinges again. and all four doors have some rust on them..
Are you still under warranty or are you covered because you’ve already had the issue addressed before?
