But that's the problem!!! I don't buy a couch knowing in a year, the leather is going to be worn and peeling. This NEEDS to be fixed at the factory level. Before buying a Jeep, I had no idea this was an issue. FIrst inclination I had was when the guy tinting my Jeep told me his mother had her Jeep a few years and got tired of dealing with the hinges and paint peeling (she had them fixed a few times). I thought to myself, "Oh, that won't happen to mine." Yep, here I am 1.5 years later dealing with the SAME issues.

There needs to be more media coverage and action to get Jeep to change something at the factory level!!!!!
A) No one said it wasn't a problem.
B) Ignorance to a fact doesn't make it any less real, just means you were ignorant.
C) Take your own advice (doubtful) and starting calling up and messaging media groups to cover this issue. Otherwise stop crying with all the exclamation points and go get it fixed, or not.

New poster to the JL forum, add me to the list of corrosion occurring on my 2019 JL (front hood edge and hinges). I went two weeks ago to the dealer they took pics of the problem areas and I just found out today the warranty claim has been denied. From what my service manager said FCA is taking a new stance on this issue. The owner needs to take the jeep to a body shop for "repair" while the jeep is being repaired the body shop needs to take pics of the base aluminum body panels, if and only if "perforation" of the metal has occurred will they replace the hood etc. if not you are stuck holding the bill. Apparently this is a change in procedure taken by FCA sticking to its "perforation" clause in the warranty. I then reached out to Jeep cares today. What a joke that was all the person could do was resite page#s of the warranty and reiterate what the dealer told me and FCA will not cover the repairs. Extremely disappointed. I asked the case manager if he bought a car and in only two years you had bubbling paint if he would be upset.

In the absence of perforation will FCA cover the refinish work?

I've heard of a couple guys pay out of pocket when they got the refinish worked covered by FCA to have the area under the hinges primed to mitigate future issues.

What is needed is a proper fix that lasts forever that Jeep pays for under warranty. And it has to be done properly (not just a repaint!). A barrier to separate the hinge metal from the body metal is what's needed. Someone has write up on the proper way to deal with this. Just have to insist its done this way when you make the warranty claim.

There was no indication of the refinish work being covered, case manager quoted "if there is no perforation found FCA will not cover the repair. I also had discussions with an owner of a high end body shop that has worked on some of my prior Porsches and german cars etc and has a lot of aluminum experience. To be honest I was just going to pay out of pocket to fix it, because quit frankly it looks like S***. He told me he said of course he could fix these spots but I will be just chasing my tail. He said you don't know 100% where the contamination occurred. Meaning yes the hinges with the steel bolts could be a problem, but also because the steel and aluminum are not in separate facilities at FCA if could be also from metal dust that fell on the hood or even if metal body rollers were used on the aluminum panels. This has been a problem for Ford as well for years on the expeditions and explorer tailgates, mustang hoods etc. So this where I am at.

Yes..I've read about Ford with similar issues as well.
Ok I misunderstood your prior post..I though it read that if no perforation was found the hood wouldn't be replaced, but I was assuming still would covered for paint work.
Keep us posted on your progress please.

They’re painting them in the same way as they were in 2018. No changes. I’d expect this to happen to yours. I realized this issue was a thing after I ordered mine, otherwise I would’ve ordered something else or kept my rebel. I instead decided to take my preventative measures and hope nothing happens to mine
What preventive measures are you taking?

Right because my understanding was if there is perforation FCA would replace the whole panel/hood with a new one according to the case manager but if none they won't cover any repair. Basically its all or nothing type of scenario.

I appears reading this forum for 3 months, that the paint bubbling is a known, ongoing issue dating back a number of years. I will be livid if my $35K stripper develops this and can't even IMAGINE those poor folks that paid $80 or $90K for a 392, which is painted right alongside my cheap, crank up window Sport.

I kept hoping an attorney that is a member here would get the bubbling, so it would be personal, and we could get a class-action lawsuit going to protect us in the future. FCA knows this is an issue.

Sure, FCA might pay for a repaint, but I learned long ago, never, ever, breach that factory paint if at all possible.

Granted, if I EVER get my 2021, I'm selling it in a few months and ordering a 2022 come spring, so it won't effect my 2021, but I plan on keeping the 2022 a LONG time.

My question is, not for you in particular, how does corrosion on the bottom to the door, or hood edge have anything to to with galvanic corrosion?
I’m not a professional at all, but I’ve heard due to the different metal dust and on the other metal that gets painted over causes it over time.

This is crazy. The more I read about this and see pictures the more I'm reconsidering ordering a new 2022 until I know for a fact Jeep has this horrible paint bubbling issue 100% taken care of and fixed. Maybe @JeepCares can give us an update on this issue ahead of the 2022 release?
