I agree the Escape )2013 and newer has been a disaster, the focus is horrible, and the Fusion sports have been problematic.

But these are all the base entry level junkers, similar to Jeeps compass, Liberty, and Renegade models that also suck.

just like the wrangler is a little more top end model, Ford will aim high on this. The only large item that is “new“ is this 7 speed. Most everything else is borrowed from the Ranger and F-150.

If they start production in April I highly doubt they would be in showrooms by spring of 2021. I'll go with manufacturer published info before I go with review sites for now.

Hard to say without seeing the parts in person. If the suspension and drivetrain are designed right ...it's possible that it could have decent longevity even with such use and 35s...but that largely depends on physical size of the components and their metallurgy. Problem is: a factory offering is unlikely to be investing large sums of money into non-standard alloys for these parts.

You're absolutely right. And why invest in the higher quality alloys, just to fall short on design. Might as well utilize the high end metallurgy on a long arm ifs, like the baja trophy tricks shown in the movie.

So a lot of people liking the 2 door that was revealed but not so much the 4 door. Wonder if it’s because the 2 door was lifted with 37’s... would have loved to see the 4 door lifted with 37’s.

The vehicle does look like a behemoth though....but that's the trend. Unfortunately, for extreme trails...that's not desirable....but market research and general use are going to trump specialty vehicles every time for a production vehicle.

Could be the angle and some lens compression, but it certainly is a bigger vehicle according to the specs and in some trims a lot wider (at least for the 2-door - only thing I care about ). But reading on the forums, some (many?) people complain about 2-door Wrangler storage, both rear and cockpit and longer/wider helps with that. Same with on-road characteristics and towing capacity - both of which would be helped by a longer wheelbase and wider track.

Every design and engineering decision is a trade-off and just like the old joke, you know you have a good compromise when neither side is happy. One thing I love about the JL is the turning radius which is in-part due to the short wheelbase. That also helps make it wander a bit on the freeway but I'm ok with that trade-off, others not so much. Also the stock Sport is fairly capable off-road with good clearance and approach/takeoff angles. And those also don't help the road manners.

According to this 2015 article, https://www.motorauthority.com/news...firmed-by-uaw-deal-ranger-pickup-timeline-set it was originally slated to begin production in 2020. I don't see this as being repeatedly delayed. You can't completely fault Ford for delays of the Bronco production this year. Production beginning in early 2021 means they missed their initial target by a month or so.

Man the body looks enormous... I understand that it’s on 37s but the proportions of the fenders make it seem like it’ll be hard to see over it considering the seating position. I love the wrangler cause it’s easy to just look out the window down the side thanks to it being upright.

I wonder what the seating position can be adjusted to and how thick the door is though.

Yes you’re right and that picture makes him look super small which he’s not. On the flip side, the 2dr is well oversized: possibly perfect for suburban driving, not so desirable in tight offroad situations.

Love all the banter back and forth about Wrangler vs. Bronco. Competition is always good thing for the consumer. Interesting you haven't heard much about Toyota and their 10 year old platform. I think they may be more vulnerable than Jeep and Ford, but Toyota has always been behind the times with their tech.


I'm new to the forum, been looking at Rubis for about 2 months (thanks COVID for a very messed up supply chain), this made me hit the pause button. I love the Jeep, but I just want to see what's going to shake out. Im in no rush.

Not sure anyone has that impression. The concept of paying to get on a list to then buy something isn’t unique to cars (e.g. https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-016147). If someone thinks $100 will get them a car then I think there are much bigger problems afoot...
