Jeep Wrangler JL broken window post 20230526_204407
Jeep Wrangler JL broken window post 20230526_215156

So, I tried to remove my windows. This happened. The 872 videos I watched on the subject gave me false confidence, I guess. Can't be repaired. (Obviously.)
I pressed the Jeep Assist button in the Wrangler. I don't know if this is @JeepCares or what. The rep who answered gave me the phone number to a car lot near me and said they're closed -- call tomorrow to make an appointment. She said it won't be covered by warranty because I did it, it wasn't a defect. (Fwiw, I don't think she had any idea what a Wrangler is -- like the windows are actually removable...) I asked her if it was safe for me to drive down the road without the window clipped in place. She (without saying a word) transferred me to another department/line which ended up being roadside assistance. The lady there, obviously, didn't know if it was okay -- she, very politely and patiently, said they send out rescue crews and don't deal with stuff like that.
So, I will call a local dealership tomorrow. But, is my window going to fall off if I drive my Jeep as it is? I'm wondering if I should tape it or something. And, if I take it to a dealer and they decide it's not covered under warranty, am I going to have to pay them for looking at it?
(<7 hours of ownership, <300 miles)
Thanks for any help/advice in these next 11 hours while I wait...

My vote is for finish breaking the rest of the clips and go permanent topless?.

But seriously that really sucks that happened hope you can get it fixed tomorrow and not cost an arm and a leg.

What windows are we talking about removing?

Sorry to hear/see that. Yeah, I would see about getting it covered under warranty. Assuming you followed the instructions it might be a defect in the plastic that caused it to break where it did.

As for driving it, I wouldn't do highway speeds, but around town you should be okay. The window is still connected by a long channel at the top and clips elsewhere.

The other option would be to finish removing the window since you were planning to anyway.

Did you release that part first before releasing the two long tabs from the channels? Start at the 1:16 mark. If not I believe that due to different tension points in removal it may have caused too much stress on the part…

One thing that video doesn't show that I would recommend is releasing the two front latches for the top (at the windshield visors). It takes a little tension off of everything for uninstalling/installing windows. Just remember to latch them again once you're done.

Why can't that be repaired? That's a pretty rough surface. I would just epoxy that with a good epoxy (not a fast set) and be done with it. Probably stronger than the original material.

Some good structural epoxy would work well. Look to 3M or Loctite branded stuff & be sure to review the technical data sheet (TDS) to be sure you choose the proper part #.

It broke at the step shown at about 1:20 in the video. I did eventually get the other side window removed, too -- with the help from a random JLU owner who parked beside me in a random parking lot! (Thank you!) After much wiggling and pulling, it finally just came undone. Maybe my clips were extra tight or just stiff since they were new. ?‍♀ We've had a couple of nice, warm days.

Good point. I was automatically thinking "you can't glue plastic." (Old, deeply embedded logic.)
Plus the idea of my Jeep not even lasting a third of a day before it broke may have been clouding my rational thinking a tad...

If it's not covered under warranty, I will go that route! (Still gonna see what the dealer has to say, because I'd like to see if they have a fast fix for my passenger seat, too.)

Warm days, if anything, should have relaxed the tension a bit and made things a little more pliable. If you were doing this in the winter, then weather would have been more of a factor. Regardless, I hope you're able to get it repaired under warranty.

Definitely. The back window was nice and floppy when it was removed. ?
