Apparently you need to be careful where you hang your air fresheners. I had a "Little Tree" air freshener hanging on my shifter, and the chemicals in it severely cracked the plastic trim! We checked my wife's car because she had a similar air freshener in the same spot, and the same thing happened! I guess I will be looking for a replacement plastic piece now, and changing to a different air freshener! The Jeep only has 4k miles on it, too, and the 'little tree' couldn't have been in there for more than a couple months. 🙄

Early on, I damaged my 2018 gearshift indicator bezel. It runs a couple hundred bucks online.

It's not all that difficult to change, but I have the Tech Authority (OEM) service manual that shows how to do it. If you buy it online and DIY, post back and I'll relay the steps to you.

If it does that to plastic, that takes thousands of years to degrade, think of what it does to your lungs…😳

The chemicals in air fresheners are no joke. Many years ago I had a couple of those Air Wick plug-in thingys stored in a medicine cabinet and one tipped over at some point. The scented liquid spilled out and formed a puddle that ran underneath our IR thermometer and over time ATE THROUGH the plastic case. The stuff literally ATE A HOLE in the thermometer's case!

Yeah those trees are brutal.

I still have that new car scent in my Jeep, but on previous vehicles, I've gotten the little plastic clip-on air fresheners from Bath & Body Works and clipped it to the top of the rear floor mat. Less "in-your-face" than the HVAC vent on the dash, but still secure, and since it's plastic, it won't damage anything.

Interior pinstriping...the trees are getting out of control!
I used to love trees before owning a Jeep but now they are quickly rising up my shit list! I was attacked by an unruly gang of them last week.

This can happen with probably any air freshener, or anything containing essential oils. Some oils are more aggressive than others. I had a similar thing happen in my car. I was using a drift air freshener. I like how they look and the scents are good, but they only lasted for about 2 weeks. It was clipped to my sun visor, I parked the car outside for the day so I put up my sunshade which was held in place by the visors. The air freshener was just touching the sun shade and the oils ate a hole through it.

I stopped using air fresheners at that point.
