So I called to order and the shipping charge was $15. I suggested simply putting it in an envelope and sending them via USPS, which should just cost a few bucks. Nope. the best they can do is Fed Ex for $15.

Sorry, Bestop, but this is ridiculous.
Unfortunately you live in 2024 and not 1924. Companies that deal with large volume have to use mass production processes in lieu of craft production to stay competitive. If you want something custom or engineered to order (whether it be a product or process) expect it to cost a lot more than $15. They probably had to pay their call center more than $15 just to take your call.

At least you're not being condescending.

/s

Edit: I removed a slightly derogatory term in a feeble attempt to keep from being banned.
I'm not intending to be condescending. I really don't think you would understand it, based on the conversation thus far. Doesn't mean I think you are dumb. I just don't think you are knowledgeable in this particular area of business management. I'm sure there are many things you know, about which I have no clue. I might be wrong, but I'm basing it on what I've read here. I don't think I am better or smarter than you or anyone else.

It is not that they can't because some do. It is their choice. And it is my choice to decide not to purchase.

And as far as competition, who exactly is the competition for Bestop? Other than some small knockoffs, I don't see much competition out there for them. However, if there was, their response might have been a little different.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little butthurt about the fact that I paid more to have my new ACT clutch spring shipped to me then what ACT actually charged me for my clutch spring.
Exactly.

Something tells me that you live in a town with a population less than 5,000 and still cash your weekly paycheck in person at the bank...

If you run an organization with (estimate of Bestop's numbers) 100 to 500 employees then how many minutes of your time is that $15 worth? I'd be shocked if you didn't spend significantly more than that $15 when you add your time into the equation.
Woah ! Slow down.....You think they are working in those closed door offices?
Woah woah woah ... this is an EMOTIONS thread dont bring Logic into it.
Woah woah woah Most people that run organizations are having lunch on the company or playing golf.👀

Study business and you'll see there is a school of thought that views this very differently. One case, sure. But it is a philosophy of serving the customer, not squeezing every penny. You make more pennies when customers perceive that you went above and beyond. That adds up, big time, in the long run.

But most companies don't get that. But the few that do are generally envied in their industries, not just for their profitability.

These are hard concepts for some to understand. And it is not required for a company to be successful. But as I said, it can separate the good from the great.

If I had time, I would share a story about a somewhat similar situation involving Roger Penske and why he had so much success working with HUGE corporations, from Exxon Mobil to SOPUS, to Chevrolet, and others. Unfortunately, that's for another day, another thread, and requires lots of time. Roger Penske, btw, would absolutely understand what I'm talking about.

But I digress. I'm happy now and found a solution that will hopefully help a few others and save them a few bucks.

You are welcome!

You're apparently incapable of understanding that you're talking to multiple people. Bless your heart.
