Elongation of a bolt is a much better indicator of the tension in the bolt than the torque is. Similarly various fasteners are specified to be torqued to yield which is another way to insure that you have a certain level of tension in the bolt.
Yep. My old 350Z factory head bolts were TTY style. I replaced them with ARP studs and nuts though when I had the bottom end built.

Good point. Yield bolts will be one time use. So when the maker says to replace bolts after one use, heed those words. ...because "yield" means permanent deformation.

Since beadlocks get discussed here once in awhile. They remind me of when I used to work on truck tires back in the 80s and knew how dangerous split rims could be. Beadlocks seem to not be treated as if they're potentially dangerous. The amount of pain must've been excruciating.

Why is the beadlock still on the rim, if it failed?

the ring seems to be in one piece.
Using a trim ring and trim bolts instead of the beadlock ring and beadlock bolts could have caused the ring to blow off the wheel in one piece.

It's on the ground in the last photo and looks warped/bent.

Is that even physically possible? Are the bolts long enough to get started?

I was watching the tire change kid do my tires on a Focus RS I had. He blipped them on with an impact, even though I specifically asked them not to. I let it go and kept watching. Then he goes around with the torque wrench and "checks torque". After he did all 4 he backs the car out and I come walking over. I asked him what the torque was and he was like "100lbs" (I don't remember actual RS specs) when I asked how he knew, he said he torqued them. I said after you used the impact, "yep". Argues with me that the wrench is clicking so it was proper torque. Sigh

At that point I just went to Service Manager and got new lugs bought and tried to get the wheel studs replaced as well but they wouldn't bend on that. Lol.

Moral of the story, a lot of people don't have a clue how a torque wrench works at all.

I heard that you can't purchase beadlocks in California, but if you already have them, you can keep them, but you can't transfer ownership to anyone else. Also, if you have them on your vehicle, you can only go directly to and from registered trails.
You can purchase beadlocks all day long in SoCal.
You can transfer to anyone you please.
I run beadlocks on my daily driver, on the street, on the freeway etc. Been running beadlocks for years in SoCal.

Don't know, just spitballin'. Could even be they used the right beadlock ring but used the shorter trim bolts – just long enough to get them started – hence the whole ring blowing off easily. I can't see how else it would blow off catastrophically unless the inserts in the aluminum holding the bolts were all defective. But then we also don't see a single bolt laying around in the photos. The bolts would have had to have shot out like bullets, but surely there would be at least one laying around in the photos. I guess they could all be impacted into the ring and still be stuck in it? Crazy things happen with that much pressure I guess.
