If you're referring to these lights, the consensus seems to be that they install easily in just the plastic factory bumper. A bit of fabrication (trimming, etc.) is understood to be necessary when attempting to fit the lights to the steel bumper. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the vendor seems to have acknowledged this only after the affected forum members relayed their installation difficulties here. Their understandable frustration may have led to certain comments like "crappy" making the rounds.
Awe hell, I just ordered those damn things yesterday and saw no mention of difficulty with the steel over plastic bumpers. I read through a bunch of forum mentions of the lights and never saw that. What am I missing? @ORACLElights can you DM me please regarding this?

So it's more for the instalation being an issue then the quality of the light? I'm just looking for input possibly from someone who installed and uses them. Are they good lights aside from possible installation issues? I do have the plastic bumper (regrettably). I wish I did go with the steel for front bumper issue lol.
I have them installed on the steel bumper. I did have to trim one light which was a pain. I also have an issue with moisture seeping into both lights. But they work, and they work extremely well. They look like they belong there. I have no regrets, and the moisture does not seem to affect them. I'd buy them again if I had to.

I know this post is pretty old but I kinda love this idea! Where did run your power? Thanks!
Power goes into the tailgate via the grommet on the right, then into the cab, then behind plastic trim pieces up to the front.

I do have AUX switches, so I wired to come on in reverse or on AUX switch 1, in case I needed to discourage a tailgater, but I’ve never had to use that feature.

I've been doing a ton of reading over the past few days. saw plenty mentions of the issues. also saw that they tweaked the design of the lights sometime back in mid/late 2021 so they would fit better, although some few still seem to have some issues in extreme scenarios. also i planned to get the wiring harness so i dont have to t-tap. there were also issues with the pins in the harness not being lined up so it caused issues. some folks with halogen lights had issues with overdrawing current and flickering, but doesnt seem to be an issue with factory LEDs, even tapping both lights to one side as the harness does.

If they don't fit, watch this video at about the 3 minute mark.

Thanks. I just went back and did another search and only saw mention of the pins and t-tap wariness. My google-fu is usually strong so I must be missing it. I appreciate the info!

Agreed. I just watched the video and it isn’t that bad, I’ve clearanced much worse on my old XJ ?

I wanted to upgrade the backup lighting without spending a huge chunk of change since I do intend on swapping out the bumper at some point. These fit the bill nicely.

I just installed the new Diode Dynamics hitch light. It sits super flush. Pretty tight with the harness on my 392 exhaust. Reverse is a nice light. Can't wait to try it tonight.

Good choice... they will be worth the wait. Way better choice then the problematic (install, fit and moisture issues) reflector replacement offering... Also, the hitch mount pod will provide better/more additional b/u lighting.

Thanks, I'm putting in the Oracle bumper lights and I think I'll ad this to the mix. I will also wire them to the Aux switches, I live in NY and I have no doubt I will have to discourage tailgaters. I'm also going to wire some front fogs to tell the people that like to cut me off it was a bad idea lol. Thank you for the info, much appreciated!

@jeepdude

The @Diode Dynamics HitchMount LED Pod Reverse Kit for the JL/JT/JK looks to be a terrific, easy to install offering... the light output is very good from what I have read.... it's a Diode Dynamics offering so you know it is a well designed.

I have a couple of Diode Dynamics HitchMount LED Pod Reverse Kit's on order.

For forum talk in regard to this offering look here:

I'm sure they are, for years I have used Diode Dynamics products in my previous cars, I am quite familiar with them.

I was asking @RoubyCoug for his first hand observations with it, alas he did not answer.

Sorry for the lack of reply.

My observations are that it's a great addition for 100 bucks. It's a notable improvement from having nothing at all.

I had a set of Baja S1's on my last Jeep - they were significantly brighter. But, they were significantly more expensive, and looked like an add on. This pod in the hitch is a great idea, and it's very inconspicuous which I appreciate.
