Keeping it simple with the question. Due to the difference in axle width between Rubicon (hub is .75 inch further out) and non Rubicon, it would make sense that there would be more inner clearance in a Rubicon. Can you run with maybe 4.75 or 5 inch back spacing with a 2.5 inch lift and 37x12.5 on a Rubicon.

Can't say I've seen a 5-inch BS with 37's but it should work without issue.

An 8.5-inch wide wheel with 4.75" of BS is ideal and works great with 37's

AEV's JL wheels have a 5.77 backspacing +25mm offset and they run a 37-12.5-17 tire on there test vehicles. I spoke to them a few weeks ago at the overland expo and there rep said he had no rubbing whatsoever. This also give a closer stub radius to zero (within about an inch) than something that has an offset closer to 0 (according to the rep). I just purchased a wheel with a BS of 5.22 offset of +12, but have not installed them yet. I plan to run a 37-12.5-17 and once installed i can let you know if I experience any rubbing or other issues.

Great information! Thank you! My concern comes from all of the lift manufacturers specifying 4.5. I know AEV generally uses amore positive offset wheel. I know most people have to use a 1 inch spacer with the factory wheels when they mount 37's giving them about 4.77 BS. I am hoping the 4.5 inch backspace requirements are more based on a sport/Sahara which should equate to around 5.25 ish on a Rubicon. Thank you again for the info. Looking forward to the update with the new wheels... and pics, too!

Thank you for the info and pics. Looks awesome, great flex! I know that backspacing works great. I'm just looking to nail down how much more I can tuck the wheels without having issues. Trying to stay within New Hampshire rules as best I can.
