Use your cluster's Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) display. Arrow down, from the left side steering wheel buttons, to the 'Stored Messages' page. Any detected codes from a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), which is the Check Engine symbol, will tell you without needing to plug in a diagnostic tool.

If your Check Engine symbol is illuminated, you will have a stored message. If not, that's an Engine Control Module (ECM) software bug. Likely not, I used to write Engine Controller software for Chysler several years back. Diagnostic codes are typically some of the most tested feature sets.

Good luck,
Jay
Wow, thanks for that info

The messages page of the instrument cluster only displays generic warnings, not diagnostic trouble codes.

@mwilk012, et., al.,

Yes, but a more human readable (typically vague) warning for anything that lights a MIL.

It's value is for the customer to tell the servicing authority something pertenant. The service tech should always use a diagnostic tool. The intent is to indicate trouble, and try to convince the typical driver to take their dysfunctional vehicle in for service.

Studies have shown that a little more information, other than just the check engine light itself, generally nudges people to seek help. Of course, corporate hopes this increases the likelihood for a dealership visit.

In simple english, it's a subtle technique for an increase in revenue stream. Whether, under warranty or not, a customer walks into the dealership is an opportunity for more business. Either just a simple oil change or a possible pitch for a trade in.

The EVIC is in no way a full-blown method to diagnose a vehicle. But I have seen a lot of mechanics get a head start down the right path by starting there. These messages if nothing else are consistent, albeit intentionally vague.

But now you know part of the reason why.

Regards,
Jay

Not my thing but I’m just nosey in general. 🙂

@mwilk012 does this for a living. You can trust his advice
They are cheap stickers from Amazon. We met some people on the trail that gave the wife an extra pair they had. Would not recommend with the halogens and driving at night in the country or desert

I was brainstorming something for offroad mud guards for my headlights so I don’t have to clean them before getting back on the highway at night and this thread popped up. I’m not sure anyone in our group would invite me to wheel with them again, but still.

They are kinda thick and I have no idea how easy they come off yet. But I think your wheeling friends would love to see some accenting your ride :giggle:

Just had same issue. Bypassed aux battery/main Battery is really new. Last week would randomly on every drive pop up the Yellow auto stop/start light and DIC message to service it. Scanned and no codes. Alert would clear with every start. I thought maybe waiting to warm up before triggering the alert. A later drive I noticed that it happened immediately after bumping over a manhole cover so when I got home I opened the fuse box and re-pushed in all the fuses and relays. On the back row toward the firewall a relay seemed to slightly push down. Been 2 days without stop/start alert. Who knows, I don't use that "feature" anyway. I always push the disable button, but it was just an annoyance. Now I am aiming for manhole covers trying to trigger it again to prove this power finicky machine is fixed. The games we play.

In other words, not related, not the same. Pull codes.
Would only be a possibility of being the same kind of issue if by chance there is a drive/engine running related fuse or relay not fully seated in the fuse box.

Is it an optical illusion that the passenger is giving you the finger?

If you want to buy suggested tech to turn the Engine Start Stop (ESS) off without having the press the button to do so each time you start up that's fine. In fact *if* engine start stop events aren't your thing I'd recommend as well that you bypass the Aux battery (how to do so available on request) as its connection is more likely to cause more trouble than it's worth: which is close to next to nothin if not running ESS events. The batteries' parallel connection increases likelihood that failure of one takes out both (a situation that very well may or may not be your problem right now.)

But I disagree with this being a strategy to permanently address your reported problem. The dealer should be able to diagnose and resolve why this is happening, and then--and only if you don't want ESS events, should these steps be taken, not as a way to prevent your issues in the first place.

I'm honestly sharing @mwilk012's frustration here.

You need the codes scanned and relayed here. Do nothing else until then. Could it be a battery B state of performance DTC? Sure. Could it be a misfire? Damn right it could. Get the codes. The A! light will illuminated for ANY CEL causing DTC, even if it's only pending and not causing the CEL to turn on yet.

For anyone else reading this, if you ever get a CEL pull the codes before doing *anything* else. The amount of times I read about warnings lights on the dash and people just shotgunning suggestions is just depressing.
