Mine has that direct injection tick. I think there's a little cam chain slap until oil pressure comes up to tighten the chain tensioners. That may be the noise the OP is hearing.
No, it doesn't. The pentastar is port injected.

I'd rather have the mexican parts.
56k for a Minivan with a Mexican engine. Best of luck with that. Got a VIN yet?.....I'd love to pass that info off to the line workers at Windsor.

Is the parts made in Mexico or is the engine just assembled in Mexico, there is a difference. Most of those parts I am willing to bet are made elsewhere and just assembled there. Which means where it was assembled had nothing to do with the issue. Maybe it is just a bad batch. Its been known to happen. GM has been dealing with "bad batches" of lifters for a while now.

The engines aren't ever built in Canada anyway.

Not 100% sure, but from the wording on my window sticker and the substantial proportion of Mexican parts, it seems very likely that the engine parts are made there as well..

Hmm true. But wouldn't the engine make up more than 21%

Honestly not sure. And likewise, I feel it's even more skeevy for a manufacturer to ship parts from their own country to another solely to get cheaper labor for assembly.

I know that's how the world works these days, but it just seems wrong/unethical in regards to workers in both countries. Maybe if the Wrangler was priced like a $20k Suzuki Jimny I could suspend my own disgust at outsourcing ?

At the end of the day, does it really matter where it was made or assembled…… I know I don’t give two squirts of piss about it, because I know there ain’t a damn thing I can do about it. The 3.6 is the noisiest engine I’ve ever owned, and it’s also one of the best engines I’ve ever owned……

All I know is, my 2018 Ram 3.6 work truck just hit 100K miles and I haven’t done anything to it except oil changes……..Hoping my jeep follows suit…..

You're making the assumption that only the labor is cheaper, and also that the labor is only cheaper.

Not really worried about where it is built either. Granted I wish more stuff was American made but there isnt anything I can do to change it. My 3.6 isnt noisy at all though. Pretty much every GM I have owned had more noise and always had a rough idle. They were all good engines mind you, just detuned from the factory is the running thought.

My 1996, and 1999 GM Vortec 5.7L's were noisy engines... tic, tic, tic.
My 2016 Ram 5.7L Hemi was a noisy engine.... tic, tic, tic.

My '22 Jeep 3.6L? Quiet & silky smooth! ?

I'm taking it back to the dealer to have the oil pressure checked on Tuesday , the shop manager even agreed with me that 26 psi is too low for oil pressure. They are going to see if the ECM is dropping the pressure or if there is something mechanically wrong with it. As far as the start up noises I don't know what to do about that. I noticed that the PCV gets a ton of oil that flows back into the intake so I may try a catch can.

Yup. The much beloved 392 HEMI is Hecho en Mexico, too. Saltillo to be exact.

Toyota made a bunch questionable design and engineering choices with the current generation Tacoma that have little to do with it being made in Mexico. Both the 3.5 V6 with direct injection and the 6-speed automatic are utter crap.
I had a Tacoma as a rental a while back what a gutless POS that truck was. Even the RAV4 I just had seemed to be way down in quality and tech than any other vehicles I've been in as of late
