Just got back from Lake Tahoe and was watching the temps the hole time
On my trip up no issues jeep topped out about 220 coolant and 201 trans
Put driving around Tahoe I was seeing 231 before the fan would kick in and cool down
So wile up there I removed the grille insert and saw it would run at lower temps
Never once after removing the inserts did it get up to 231 and turn on the fan . Got close on some up hills put then cooled down a much faster
So I ordered the Gladiator / wrangler jl upgrade inserts from BAM Wholesale Parts $54 shipped

Its not a fix all for the fan coming on at such a high temps put it helps
I also moved the horns from in front of the trans cooler to behind the bumper
I am also looking at putting the Mishimoto 10 in. fan and Universal PWM fan controller in front of the radiator
The controller will allow for a ramped up fan speed
Has any one installed a fan in front and did it work out

Installing a fan in front is just going to block airflow at speed.

The fan can be set to come on at 190 and ramps up as it gets hotter (see graph)
Any thing over 190 the fan will be pushing air through the radiator
And you are correct and one of my concerns
Now if the factory fan would ramp up as it get hotter we would not be seeing 231 before the fan kicks on and cools it down

I know it has probably been shown before, but figured I would post it anyway. Before and After of installing the 3 grill insert Parts that @Willys41 listed.

The old style (‘20 JLU Sahara) didn’t seem that restrictive until you see the JT newer style.

I have been working on trying to get control of the temp on the 3.6 JL for the last week
Here is what I found
1. The thermostat starts to open at 190
The fan comes on at 1/4 speed at 221
The fan comes on full speed at 231
Ones the fan comes on in most cases it is sufficient to cool it down to about 215
I would like to have the fan come on at a lower temp and higher speed put have not found any device that would accomplish this

I installed your 10in. slim fan on the condenser to try to keep it cooler put air will not pass through the radiator
There are two reasons why air wont flow through the radiator
1. The condenser sets about 2in. away from the radiator leaving a large area for the air to escape instead of about 1/2in. like most cars
To solve this problem I installed sheet metal air dams on 75% around the condenser to stop the air from escaping and force it through the radiator. Put theirs another problem
The factor radiator is very tight or not open enough to allow free flowing air to pass through it. Both with a fan on the condenser or driving down the road . The air hits the radiator core and bounces off. Takes the path of lest resistance
I am still testing and with the air dams I have managed to get about 25% of the condenser mounted fan to pass air through the radiator. I would like to get 75%
Also wondering if the Mishimoto JL 3.6 radiators are more open to free flowing air and less restrictive
Thanks

With the water cooled exhaust manifold on the 2.0Ls, I would have to think that's a pretty big contributor. There is no way to remove the exhaust manifold is there? It's integrated with the head?
