My 2019 JLUR was built in early April and now has almost 2000 miles.

Drives great for a wrangler.

Sure, it doesn’t track as straight as my wife’s ‘16 Honda Odyssey, but it makes for a more interesting drive.

Seems like around 75mph it drives better than at 45mph....fwiw

After putting 6k miles on my 19 2dr rubi, I can tell you the steering is just OK. When I hit a hole I can feel the play in the front end not much but it is there. It feels just like my 14 JKU that was lifted and didn't have upgraded front end. After replacing tie rod, drag link, sway bar, and ball joints with tera flex HD I could run 100+ mph without the SS. So I will be upgrading the front end before I do anything else on this new jeep. I don't think having them replace factory parts will fix the prob as most factory parts are just too light duty.

Hi

Is this where I register to join the 2019 Wrangler JL with "excessive" steering play and wandering issues club?

Just took my Rubicon JLU into service at my dealership this morning for steering play and wandering. Service depart said it was up to Jeep's factory specs and that it drove like another Rubicon they have on the lot. "Case closed" to them. To me not so much.

I asked about the redesigned track bar and the service manager said there was no way of knowing if I had the newer track bar already installed. He didn't seem to know about the TSB until I showed him on my phone, then suddenly he acted like "yeah we know about that", but then said mine "probably" had the new track bar since my Jeep was manufactured in March 2019.

Only have a little over 1k miles on it and it seems to have become noticeably looser since I first bought it. Sometimes if I have to hit the brakes kind of hard in bumper-to-bumper traffic the Jeep is a little hard to keep rolling straight as it sometimes likes to drift to the left, but you don't feel it happening at first then suddenly you find yourself approaching the center line. Higher speeds (40 and over) make the wandering more noticeable like others have stated.

I came from a Silverado crew cab, starting to miss it now. Its steering was much "tighter" than the Jeep's.

I might try looking into a 3rd party track bar and drag link since others have indicated that it helps.

BTW I keep my tire pressure at 38psi cold, the Jeep was delivered at 48psi.

Contacted Jeep Cares as well today. Not holding my breath.

Other than the steering the Jeep is really is nice. Hope this gets resolved.

Thx for letting me vent.

I'm getting the run around from my dealer on the 'death wobble' problem. They admit its a problem, they 'say' they will replace a shimmy shock and control arms, they schedule me for the work (twice), and both time, when I get there they tell me they don't have the parts. Now, I get "we don't know when its coming in'. My response to them is "do you realize this is a safety issue? Do they realize that if I get in a accident because of their inability to fix a know safety issue, they are culpable?". Their response is only, "If you don't like our response, call Customer Care".......very frustrating

My first post on this forum.

Here is my story…

Purchased a brand-new Jeep JL Sport S with 13 miles on it about a month ago (MFD 3/2019)

After leaving the dealership just a few miles down the road I realized that there was something off with the steering. It felt like the two front wheels were fighting each other for control. Turned around went straight back to the dealership and had service take a look. I was informed that the Jeep was out of alignment apparently the driver’s side wheel was off by 22 degrees.

Soon after, driving this beautiful Mojito Jeep for a week I became concerned that the steering felt lose constantly requiring driver correction to keep it in the lane it just wouldn’t track straight no matter what speed.

Took it back to the dealership once again. The service department concluded that the track bar would need to be replaced with a newer version with larger bushings. I must say that the updated track bar fixed my tracking issues above 45MPH. However, steering below 45MPH resulted in loose steering with 2-3” of steering play. Service has decided to now replace my steering box with an (updated version) not 100% certain.
Looks like the Jeep will be tied up for another day making it our fourth trip to the service department.

Full disclosure, the service department has been excellent handling my concerns.
My FCA specialist Nicole has been equally excellent.

I will update everyone once the steering box has been installed and a test drive is completed.

36 PSI cold all tires.

I'm fairly certain there was a software fix to correct some steering calibration. I picked up a Rubicon in April which was fresh off the truck. They required a software update before they could deliver the Jeep to me. Make sure that was done.

Nice to hear someone being treated as they should from a service department for once!

How do you know if you have the latest updated parts? I have a 2019 Jl unlimited sport S and I don’t get the wandering but I can move the wheel like NYrubicon. Is this “Jeep” normal or is there a way to check if I have the latest updates?

You'd have to check the part numbers and compare to the latest steering related part numbers listed in the main steering thread like the drag link, track bar, steering stabilizer (has AE at the end of the part number on the label), etc.

7/25/2019 Update

The Steering Gearbox was replaced yesterday with an updated version.
What a big difference, steering is tight and very responsive.
It appears my issues are resolved.

Is the steering tight as in a bit harder to turn?
