I know theres been a lot of discussion on here in the past about preferred oil for the 3.6 Pentastar since Jeep changed it to a 0W 20. Has anyone had a successful strategy ie 1) Run 0W 20 until 60k then switch to 5W 30?
2) Run 5W 30 from the get go and bet on the come as to warranty? (Less likely to need it)
3) Stay with 0W 20 because 5w 30 wont make that big of a positive difference?
4) when you hear the Pentastar has potential to make it 300k and above,no chance with 0W 20 right? Must go to 5W 30 at some point?
5) as i understand it, Jeep only changed it for EPA emissions tests and a little bit of mileage ( about as much as the start stop)
Would appreciate your experience and how many miles you made it to without a major issue (successful strategy) thanks

We have four (4) 3.6 engines in the Family. Three have been purchased new and one with 18K miles on it. We only run PUP 5W30 oil. Never had an engine failure.

Doesn't matter which you run. If 20 weight oil was too thin for the engine then it would be causing increased wear, meaning friction increases, and mileage decreases. Jeep wants the best MPG, so they wouldn't specify oil that's too thin.

I have a 2021 Willys and I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 this weekend.
It made a world of difference! Mutch quitter and smoother.

You're not going to see a difference between 0w-20 and 5w-30. Run what helps you sleep at night.

I think I'd like to try this PUP oil but
VA can get quite cold in Jan & Feb. What do you think about 0W-30?

For your logistics temperatures, I would think that 0W30 would be a good choice! PUP does not offer a 0W30 weight engine oil. One of my friends runs Amsoil 0W30 in his new Wrangler, but he resides in Michigan. But Amsoil pricing is just not even in the Ballpark..IMO. If I was to run 0W30, Mobile 1 ESP, would probably be my go-to oil.

@Flip
Appreciate your thoughts..i used Mobil one for both my Hemi Ram 1500s and had great results. I think the 0W 30 looks like a good answer for my Jeep.
I just semi retired and i wont be buying a new vehicle as often now and am just more focused on engine longevity at this point thx

In the title of the thread it says 5w-30 vice 0w-20. Did you mean "vs." ??
If so, then this is the thread for you: a Little light reading about this subject.
