0W-20 to 5W-30

We only use our Jeep as a toad behind our MH. So for a 2020 the mileage is low at 12k. The Debacle over at GM has them putting heavier grade oil as it was admitted the 0W-20 used was for C.A.F.E numbers.
My 2016 Jeep wrangler JK used 5W-30.
Have others went to 5W-30?

You should follow the factory recommendation on which oil to use for your specific engine. The GM engine issue was not related to the oil being used in the engine.

Many 3.6L JL owners are running 5w30, 0w30 or even higher viscosity. I have been running 0w40 for the past 12000 miles.

If you want to lower your oil temps and your coolant temps, installing a RPM Extreme fan controller will drop your coolant temps about 20F across the board and along with it, the oil temps. This is due to the oil being cooled by the coolant on the 3.6L. Doing this modification may add longevity to your engine and will effectively increase the viscosity of the oil.

The normal operating temps for the 3.6L engine is 195-225 degrees for the coolant and 230-260 degrees for the engine oil. Anything cooler than the normal operating temps is not good for optimum performance and a few other reasons.

my 2013 and 2014 used 5w20 per the owners manual...I think the 2012 was 5w30 tho

0w20 is unrelated to GM’s manufacturing issues with 6.2 parts. But, if you want to use a heavier weight oil, do whatever makes you feel good. The failure rate of Pentastars and their cam issues seems to be unaffected by oil weight as well.

I will look into this fan controller. The 5W-30 oil has done wonders in the way this 3.6 engine runs and sounds. Better cooling couldn't hurt.
