Pretty sure 2013 thru 2018 jk’s called for 5w20. I had a 2013,2014,2016, and 2018 jk and owners manuals all said 5w20
My cap said 5W30 so that is what I used and my buddy (he has a 2012 though) also said 5W30. That is weird. My Sv Mgr at the dealership puts 5W30 in my new one so that is good. Regardless, 5W30 is a better oil for the 3.6 anyway. I use 0W40 in the other vehicles but one is Euro(Merc with 110K) and calls for that. My 4Runner has 225K so I just put that in the 4R as well though it calls for 5W30. All are running great so the JL needs to continue that tradition.

The engine was originally designed for 5W30. In ~2013/2014 they dropped that to 5w-20 for emission/epa related reasons. With the PUG engine they further reduced it to 0w-20 for more emissions/epa reasons. I use 0w-30 in my PUG engine.

I think 0W30 is fine. Really any oil with a high HTHS (which is why I often prefer Redline's non OEM-spec oils) is good for these motors. They are highly shear resistant. I see many 0W20s that have low shear resistance, so I avoid those. I do think there are 0W20s with high shear resistance that would be better than most but I doubt they meet the Chrysler spec. So I default to 5W30s and 0W40s for my vehicles.

Changed mine with 0W30 Mobil One ESP this past weekend at 2,464 miles.

After initial purchase I dumped the factory oil at 510 miles or so and changed with Mobile One Extended Performance 0W20.

I changed to the Baxter Performance adapter and WIX 57502 filter somewhere around 1,100 miles.

Since the addition of the Baxter and Mobile One ESP this engine is damn near silent at cold start up and open loop idle. The only thing I hear is the fuel injector solenoids. Oil pressure remains normal across all RPM ranges and temperatures.

This is in no way an endorsement or suggestion to any of the above mentioned products, only my observations.

For my 23 Wrangler Rubi 2 Dr. 3.6L the factory recommends 0W-20 and as you can see my operating temps on the trail with air temps 103-107 today, it appears that my engine is operating well within the normal temp operating range and the 0W-20 oil is doing just fine.

You have the perfect oil temp for a 20 grade. Mine is around that temp during normal driving. Off road climbing mountains approaches 250f.

Here’s mine around town yesterday morning.

The trail I was on really didn't have any steep climbs and we were only about 2600 feet in elevation. The speed I was at was about 20-25 MPH just enough to keep the swaybar discounted.

During the 110 teen temps driving around on grocery getting streets I'll see about 225 degrees and on the freeway at 75 MPH I'll see 235-239.

I usually don't pay much attention to the temps because they always show good temps. On my next aggressive trail with steep climbs, I'll pay more attention to the oil temp.
