Can it, or should it? Two entirely different questions.

Can it physically move a trailer weighing 5K? Sure.

Is it safe to operate on public roads, where you'll need to be able to properly control and more importantly, STOP a Sahara towing a 5K-weight trailer? No.

Also, keep in mind that towing a 5K weight trailer is going to bring your MPG down to about 8, so you're going to have to stop every ~100 miles for gas.

The truth? It can tow more than that. Depending on conditions, it may not stop.

I wouldn't tow that with my Gladiator and it's rated for 6000. 3000 tops.

Sorry my friend, don't mean to stand in your sunshine, but that is a really stupid question on so many levels. Think lawyers and insurance underwriters and you have the answer to your question. You got a few million dollars when you kill somebody?

Why is that a stupid question? They were marketed as being able to tow 5k. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they've actually delivered.

Look on your build sheet for something like this (from mine):
CLASS II RECEIVER HITCH
From what I understand it would have to be a Class III hitch if your rig was rated to tow more than 3,500 pounds.

You can probably pull it off…but it probably won’t be a very pleasant experience. Wranglers are great at a lot of things, but towing is not one of them.

last year in a pinch I towed my snowmobiles with a V6 Rubicon. It had the tow package but no brake controller. I had two sleds on a 1,500 pound trailer, total weight with gear probably 2,800-3,000 pounds.

the trailer pushed my Jeep around especially when braking, the engine was revving really high especially on the highway and could barely stay out of the way (Utah canyons). It wasn’t pleasant.

I drive my Jeep for fun, I use my truck when I need to tow or haul anything. Much more pleasant experience .

Jeepless at the moment.
I think just the 24 rubicon without the 35” package and with the V6 is the only spec rated at 3500k here. Every other Jeep is 2000

Edited out the completely made up numbers.
