Mr. Stellantis is waiting outside your home and says there's a top secret recall on your Jeep. He brought two brand new Jeeps with the exact same options you already have. One is a 3.6, the other is a 2.0. Which one are you taking?
Have a 2.0. Initially swore no way no how. Then test drove. Wow. It's a keeper. Plenty of power and 25+mpg

I'll pick the one that guarantees that I'll never have to see another one of these threads.

2.3 Ecoboost over either, unfortunately we all know this isn’t possible.

The problem for me when choosing was there just isn't enough proven reliability for the 2.0 yet. It still falls under the newish/proving itself category.
Bro. The 2.0 has been in the GLOBAL market for over a decade and in the JL for 9 model years. It has no (zero) systemic failures identified. The worst that has happened to it with some loose coolant hoses from the factory. It is built in 3 different global Stellantis plants.

What more reliability data do you need?

3.6 …cause manual transmission.
Of all the options, you had to choose the absolutely slowest possible combination, and the only one incapable of pushing bigger tires without massive regearing. Ouch.

Time on the market and widely proven with high mileage are two separate things. Again, we haven’t seen hardly any high mileage 2.0s on a regular basis yet.

We see plenty of 3.6s going 200, 250k.

Hopefully we start seeing some high mileage engines soon.

On the original top end and head gasket?

I’ll post an anecdote even though it kinda proves your point about volume. I work in auto salvage. I see wrangler specific 3.6s leave on work order all the damn time. Matter of fact my sister’s 23 GC needed a head replacement and gasket at 5000 miles lol. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a 2.0t leave in the 3 years I’ve been there. Now again, tons of 3.6s on the road, more than 2.0s so you have the volume there. But it’s enough for me to not touch a 3.6 Same as why I would never tell anyone to buy a CVT Nissan or 1.5T Honda engine. They leave on Workorder, constantly.

So true. No clutch - No fun. And you save $2500 cause the manual is FREE.
Nothing is free. Stick is fun in three situations.
1. Heavy duty truck
2. Sports car
3. Nothing i can post and not get gigged

I agree that a stick is more fun. Last new car I bought with a stick was a 2014 Mustang GT. Thing is, today’s 8-10 speed autos are impossible to match with a stick as far as performance and fuel economy are concerned.
Maintenance and price of a rebuild are a very different story.
Note: If my Mustang could have had the 10 speed from my F150 it would’ve really rocked.

I own a 3.6 and I'm happy with it. I would favor the 3.6 in principle because it is overall a simpler system and should be more reliable however it seems there are performance benefits to the 2.0 and maybe it is just as reliable anyway.

Talking about sports cars, just picked up this very sweet Audi R8 with gated 6-speed. Never owned a gated tranny...should be fun. Funny...did they need the shift pattern on the knob when the gate is right there?!?!? I'll keep it for a month or two then sell it...too much $$ and insurance!
