There might be hope if the 2021 Grand Cherokee was not a mid-model refresh.

Was the 2021 Grand Cherokee a mid-model refresh? I ask because the 2021 Grand Cherokee loaner I was given had Uconnect5. Maybe it's as simple as a new head unit that fits the current dash layout? Wishful thinking anyway.
They must have given you the brand new L version because the current 2 row Grand Cherokee still has UC4.

The current Grand Cherokee generation has been in production since 2011 and I assume is up for an update.

The last Mercedes ML Jeep, finally exiting stage left. The replacement seem to be a nice vehicle. At first new gen (3-row) and old gen (2 row) will be sold side-by-side. A la JK/JL 2018 overlap.

The two-row WL74 will be fully revealed next month at the NYIAS in 4xe trim. They showed a couple of pics of it last week at the electrification event. We had a 2017 GC Trailhawk and loved it. Hope the new one is even better.

Given how nice the L is, the 2 row will be great. I think the 2 row looks better as well. Probably going to upgrade my other halfs 20 GC to a 4xe GC

are you 100% sure about that? unless it was a new 3 row grand Cherokee L, it should have Uconnect4 still. I have yet to see an outgoing style grand Cherokee with the Uconnect5 system.

Hello everyone,

We heard some murmurs surrounding the Uconnect 5 system in the newest 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicle model. A bright, structural element neatly frames the next-generation, 10.1-inch display for the new Uconnect 5 system, providing an intuitive user experience. If you're interested in receiving updates on the Grand Cherokee L as the news is released, you can sign up at https://www.jeep.com/all-new-grand-cherokee-3-row.html#signup .

At this time, the only vehicles that come equipped with Uconnect 5 systems are: 2021 Dodge Durango, 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

I hope that provides some clarification!

It means they only have those vehicles confirmed as of July 14th, 2021. I think they're being cautious with their wording.

If 2022 comes with Uconnect5 we would see that at the auto show. It doesn't make sense to hold that info back. I think Uconnect5 is 2023+.

I was mistaken. The '21 GC I had DID NOT have the UC5. It must have had a much newer 8.4" with UC4. The screen was much better than my '19 JLR 8.4" screen. I assumed it was UC5 because the screen seemed like it had much better resolution. The back up camera was a LOT better. Much brighter and I think better resolution? Different layout also so I assumed incorrectly it was UC5. I asked my contact at Jeep Waves and I mentioned the '21 GC I was driving having a better screen, interface and back up camera. She said the '21 GC had UC5? I went with it. Brain fart on my part or I was just hearing what I wanted to believe?

It sounds like UC5 will probably not be in the 2022 JLs if all of the screens for UC5 are going to the larger screen.

My bad..

And it looks like the Compass is getting UC5.

I just looked the 2021 GC L up. The 2021 GC I had definitely did not have this dash or head unit. Sorry for the confusion.

The Compass was not on that list and is confirmed to get UC5. I guess I can go drool at the UC5 in the Compass at the Chicago Auto Show.

Yeah it actually looks like a 2021 UX. Here's to hoping they do bring it to an 8.4" screen and someone figures out how to do a direct swap with a 18-22 Wranglers. Not likely, but here's to hoping. I did just get a brand new iPad Pro 11" and a RAM mounting system. Not the same thing, but it will be nice.
