Cost is important as they are an expensive aftermarket change - but #1 on my list would be that they have been fully engineered to actually work - and safely - clearances, suspension, driveline tuning, etc - reasons I prefer stock tires at the moment as a mostly commuter and highway driver.
Yeah, those are really valid concerns. I just didn't include those initially because all the parts are available now via JPP, so the engineered part has been around and can be installed now. Just not from the factory.

Crap, I forgot about the “doesn't poke out past the fenders which is illegal in some states” issue. I really like the look when the tires go out past the fenders. I’m not sure I’d want wider fenders when on the trail.
It is actually illegal in most (if not all) states. It is simply enforced more in some.

For those waiting on the 35 inch wheel package to make a decision buying a 2022 or a 2021 now, the XTREME RECON package for the 35 inch wheels is only available on 4 doors. 2 doors, pull the trigger now!

So the 2-door gets shafted yet again. No Hemi, Diesel, or 4xe. What's next? No 2-door? Lol.

There is one Gecko. I ordered on 5/6 and still do not have a build date. My dealer has 3 on order, none with a build date.
I picked up the lone Gecko to be made so far back in early May. It was a special build for the dealer. They wanted to see what kind of buzz would happen by putting it out there it what I was told from the salesman. I had heard there was 2 made but I have yet to see any posts or pics of it.

I hate to be that guy, but this shouldn't surprise anyone. The 2-door is such a tiny part of the overall Wrangler take rate that at this point it's really only around for fan service.

I was just thinking the same thing yesterday, Viper. I believe they will stop
making the 2dr and with that....I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe that is why no response to the emails from Gupton. Mine is in the shipping stage and Jeep chat cannot provide an ETA.
Just stopped by gupton to try to talk to Daniel in person for the first time and he won't be back until Monday on a trip but man oh man there's like 15 jeeps ready for pick up in their lot between gladiators and wranglers

I get that. I guess my question was why? Why are they breaking the pattern they've had in place for so many years?
It's a year unlike anything in the last 25 years from a supply chain/ demand perspective. I doubt they feel a need to rush the 2022's if there is no major refresh or major changes. Shutting down for switchover doesn't make much sense when you can't build them fast enough currently. Just my two cents.

Same as everyone else. Supply chain is jacked up. Almost every manufacturer has pushed back their model year changeover this year.

I have my doubts too. The end of the line might be when full EV Wranglers are made? I see a full electric Limited but not a 2-door. That would be a damn shame considering the 2-door is what made the Wrangler what it is today. I hope we are both wrong and the 2-door continues on.

I don't know if the late introduction of 2022s has anything to do with suppler issues? I would assume that but who knows? Supposedly the late introduction of 2022s was predetermined in Jan of 2021. The sales manager of Criswell said FCA planned for 2022 models in December a year ago. 2019 was a short year so they broke with tradition then also. Probably because of the Gladiator?

The sales managers would have no idea about any of that so I'm not sure why they're claiming that. Model year change over involves supplier contracts changing, materials being pre-sourced, and so on and so forth. There are so many logistics at play here from tire suppliers to plastics suppliers to even Jeep having minimum order commitments with existing contracts that they have to meet. It's so much more complicated than most people think. So yes, it almost certainly has to do with supplier issues, and no these decisions aren't made nearly two years ahead of time.

Jan 2020 is typo on my part. I believe the Criswell sales manage said they were told about the timeline for December delivery of 2022 about 6 months ago back in Jan 2021 not 2020. He said there was FCA meeting about it. He had very specific dates so I asked specifically about how he knew. And that was his reply.
