Yeah, I've been watching prices. I'm not in a *huge* rush, but I'm also getting pretty antsy, lol. I'm figuring I could talk this dealer down a couple grand, as well.

The other thing is that as built, at 5-7% below invoice, the Sahara that I want is only ~$47K after taxes/fees. So going used isn't going to save me *that* much**, and I'd already budgeted $50K when I first started researching, so I'm still comfortable either way.

EDIT: **yeah, I realize $10K is a lot of money, but I figure I'm going to drive this thing for 10-15 years, so it's not that much over the lifespan of the vehicle. Also, as was pointed out previously, there's a LOT of difference between a JK and a JL - at least $10K. Also lots of intangibles between used and new - full warranty, the 3 years of Jeep Wave or whatever, etc. Just didn't mean to sound snobby/disconnected that a $10K price difference is immaterial. It's immaterial to my decision for this specific purchase, lol.
I have owned a TJ, JK, JL. The JL is BY FAR the best Wrangler. A warranty is nice peace of mind. You have a really nice budget. My suggestion is to buy the newest model within your budget. Consider traveling to one of the dealers who offer good discounts to save a few thousand bucks. I have traveled for 4-5 cars. Just make a adventure out of he road trip back home. Good luck.

One of the benefits of driving cars for 10-15 years is that you get to go MANY years without a car payment, so it's easier to build up a nice budget for the next one. :)

I'm definitely open to traveling. There's a dealership down near Houston (~4-5 hrs) that is offering 5% off invoice for custom orders, and someone on here recently bought from them. However, I also plan to send my PDF to a few out of state dealers, too - if I can buy a $200 plane ticket and save another $2-3K, PLUS I get a road trip out of it? Money in the bag.

Affiliate gets you 2% more under invoice. 1% for you and 1% for the dealer. Before this crazy market some dealers gave the full 2% to the buyer. There are thousands of companies that qualify for Affiliate. Check if you qualify for Affiliate or join Tread Lightly for $100 if you don't. There is also a climbing organization you can join for $50 that will qualify you for Affiliate. I will post the name if I can remember it.

Agreed 100%

Our fleet until a year ago was a 2005 TJ and a 2004 TJ.

The trans went out on the 2005 so with a 170K miles we went to a JT. I took advantage of the current used market and sold my 04 TJ for an insane price and was able to put in an order for a JL before the price increases

Yeah, I know. I've been hoping I can find a 2018 Rubi in Rhino if I'm going to go used.

If I go 2022, it'll be a Sahara - I really despise the red interior accents on the newer Rubicons, and have calculated it would cost ~$2k to get rid of them. Admittedly, a Rubi is more than I'm likely to need/use, too. But if I'm going to go used, then I'll have the extra room in the budget to get the Rubi, plus it looks like they started the red in 2019/2020. If I go used, I'll be shopping for a 2016-2018 Rubi in Rhino. Otherwise it's a 2021/2022 Sahara.

I'm driving an '07 GMC Sierra right now, so anything's going to be an improvement, lol.
If you order the saddle brown leather interior on the rubicon it gets rid of most of the red interior stuff. Much nicer looking IMO.

Yes, but then I have a saddle brown leather interior, which I also do not want.

I wanted to circle back and see what Selec-trac/4Hi Auto is not available with Diesel option? What mechanically would prevent this let's say even on MY2022?

Isn’t it the same transfer case in the 392 though? With the exception of 2H
That's a good point! Maybe it's possible then? So would only driving the Diesel a few miles a day lets says 5 days out of the week actually be detrimental on the engine and its intended purpose?

Short commutes and stop-and-go traffic aren't the best for diesel engines, which prefer to be fully warmed up and run (preferably at highway speeds). However, it may work for you if you're able to hit the road during the week.
