This has probably already been answered but are there major differences between the 2 engines, besides cost?
For what it is worth I am speaking of the 2020. 2.0 w/OUT the E-torque (Sport and Willys,..NOT the Sahara model).

Also, does the 2.0 with NO E-torque still require premium gas, or is that only needed/recommended in the Sahara version with the E torque?

Yes this often debated, lots of different opinions.

E-torque does not affect gas octane, it’s an electric motor with a battery pack. FCA changed the premium requirement to “recommended”

Beyond turbo vs n/a; one of the biggest differences is port (3.6) vs direct (2.0) injection. Also no manual on 2.0

I am getting ready to order a JL and this (engine choice) is the last piece. I am schizophrenic on this and go back and forth every other day. Ah, decisions, decisions - renting a JL from Enterprise next week, will be interesting to see what engine it has.

Yeah the $1000 + savings is pretty nice, but I remember reading the 2019 2.0's (as well as Saharas this year) with the E Torque ended up not being a savings long term when the premium gas was needed. (Recommended)

So I assume the "recommended" premium gas choice is only for the 2.0 E Torque's, and the standard 2020 2.0's don't even get that recommendation?

I'll do more research but so far I'm leaning towards the 3.6.

Are you trying to start a riot with a question like that?!

Seriously though, the 2.0 will recommend premium fuel with or without e-torque. You don't have to run premium.

But I was just asking peoples opinions who have driven both.

And I'm Brand New here!! Definitely not looking to cause trouble or start riots!!! LOL

the premium gas for the 2.0 was just the naysayers trying to paint it poorly. It’s perfectly happy in factory tune on 87. Jeep even clarified that premium isn’t a requirement

With tunes now coming out for the 2.0 it’s also possible with premium fuel to pickup another 20% or more power which makes the comparison very one sided.

I’ve just done a 700 mile road trip with a chipped 2.0 followed with two days of trails and another 130 miles of pavement today and it’s absolutely fantastic. On the highway it’s got tons of grunt at 85mph and no issues pulling out to pass.

I rented an e-torque for a week last summer in the North Carolina mountains and it was over-the-top fabulous!

But, when I ordered a 2020 Rubicon in the late summer, I went with the 3.6 and I am very happy that I did.

It seems to come down to, do you want to drive a hammer or a sling shot?

If e-torque is not available on the turbo, I would definitely pass on it, for sure.

This thread feels like deja vu.

I test drove both: any performance difference seemed negligible; the 2.0T transmitted more NHV into the cabin, particularly at launch; the V6 accelerated more progressively and smoothly.

I ended going with the V6 because it felt more refined, runs on regular gas, and is by now a proven engine. My dad has a 2013 Dodge Journey with 100,000 miles on a similar V6 and the engine is still running like new.

I am hoping to keep this Jeep for awhile; IMO the V6 seems like a better fit for a Jeep given its relative simplicity and durability.

I was in the same place a couple months ago when I was ordering my 2020 Rubicon. This is our 7th Jeep since 2010 and after having several 3.6 engines I was sold on it. I went to the dealer and drove the 2.0 with E-torque twice and the 3.6 twice. Went home and ordered the 3.6 for all the same reasons. No premium gas, predictability of the 3.6 etc..... Went home and thought a bit about the test ride and loved the 2.0. Ordered it and never looked back. No E-torque is a plus. I only run 87 and its fine. The only thing I noticed between the 2.0 e-torque and non e-torque is the start stop. It is much smoother with the e-torque. For me I was happy not having all the extras that come with the e-torque ( a more complicated system with an extra battery). I would go test drive for yourself . 2.0 all the way.

Unfortunately my wife will be driving it 50% of the time so we "gotta get an automatic".
But I agree with ya!!!!!

Jeep had to clarify 2.0 octane requirement because FCA originally stated 91+ on the window sticker and owners manual.

I own a 3.6 and prefer the 2.0. Wasn't available when I ordered my Jeep in early 2018. I find the 3.6 a bit gutless. Some lag with the 2.0 but if you've driven other I4 turbos, you won't mind. It's one of the better 2.0 turbos out there...possibly the best that is offered in a mainstream model with the exception of the motor found in the VW Golf R but I don't think that really counts. Just a tad worse than the 2.0 turbos offered by BMW and Audi in their ~250hp guise (whose power figures are underrated).

Ha! My wife drives a manual with the best of them. She and I test drove a Fiesta ST (an AMAZING car) and she heel-toed through the downshifts. The salesman was a bit of a misogynist jerk and made a comment about how she was "pretty good for a girl". We left the dealership and bought our JK instead.

When it came time to custom ordering a JL I asked my wife if we should get an auto or a manual. She looked at me and said, "Don't be a F*#%ing b^&*ch."

She's not like other girls :).
