The partial confusion was my fault (I edited some of my above post). You are correct, and the Tazer was the reason you were in 2WD when you disabled Traction Control.
not completely your fault, there is a thread on 392 forum talking just about this.

The issue is leaving Forced RWD: on, it overrides the 4wd on your shifter. You need to go to Forced RWD: off, then you can select 4wd Hi or Low.

ask me how I know.
I'm intrigued, how?

By the way, force RWD was off.
When i turned off the TC nannies, it went to RWD on its own.

I have never had the TC force it into RWD. That is a bit odd. I always run my 392 in Forced RWD: on and switch between TC on and off without issues.

Id suggest testing out Offroad + as that removes your TC and see if it responds the same as just hitting the TC button.

Testing out the 4wd activation with Forced RWD: on will still only spin the rear tires. I could not get my 392 into 4hi or low unless I selected Forced RWD: off. Did a little spinning on a trail once until I remembered the Tazer.

Its electrical as is the Transfer case even though we have a lever. The Tazer bypasses even the 4wd shifter. If I'm hitting a trail, I always select Forced RWD: off prior to arriving.

Did they reach the same conclusion ? the one i saw did not i believe.
they did not, this was a old thread and people were just discovering and marking it as a hidden Jeep feature (turn Jeep to 2WD by disabling TC)
