I'm gonna have to see that story and why coverage was denied on a car with 100 miles on it. That's insanity.
https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-musk-steering-suspension/

Apparently there is a pattern of this and Tesla has been telling its service centers to deny coverage for suspension and steering related failures because warranty costs were spiraling out of control. Another story came out today where a few Senators sent a letter to Tesla demanding answers.

Dealing with unexpected issues, especially when it comes to transportation, can be a hassle. It's disappointing to hear about the limitations in towing coverage and the lack of immediate solutions such as rental car options. It's certainly reasonable to expect better support, especially when you're facing an unexpected breakdown. I hope your communication with the dealer and the General Manager brings about a positive resolution and that your Jeep is back on the road soon. It would be beneficial to document your experience thoroughly, including any correspondence with Jeep and the dealer, as this information can be helpful if further escalation or communication with Jeep becomes necessary.

100% agree with you, my hopes with this thread is to capture the attention of @JeepCares. The goal is to showcase the owners experience. What happens when things go south. To your earlier point this experience thus far has been unbelievable, as it is apparent that the customer is not the priority. I have worked for many of manufacturers during my career where customer satisfaction was and still is a top priority. Hopefully this will bring awareness to their service arm of the business to allow Jeep (Stellantis) to make some corrections.
So many times I’ve read Jeep cares but they don’t in many cases.

UPDATE - 12-28-23
The service department at Adams Jeep called me today. They informed me that Stellantis was looking for more documentation what they were looking for was any modifications to the factory exhaust or any alterations to the ECU or any tuners installed. so this draws the question should 392 owners stay away from aftermarket performance, products, or risk having the warranty denied. I’m lucky everything is bone stock on my jeep and I have not made any changes so it looks like another day or two of waiting for an approval from Stellantis.

2018 JLUR
I love my 2018 JLUR, but I would be very hesitant to buy any Stellantis product at this point. I grew up outside Detroit, and my family was a major player on the supplier side of the industry. My first engineering school internships were in some of the supplier design houses. I carpooled with "suits" in the HQs, including Chrysler at the time. The US auto industry has always been as shady as Private Equity tries to be today. The OEMs will constantly play games with suppliers to screw them mid-contract, which results in the suppliers being forced to cut corners on parts specs just to break even.

After all the turmoil in the industry over the past few years, Stellantis is setting itself out as the worst of what survived. Just look at their year-over-year price increases, which are some of the most egregious in the industry. There is no economic reason for the increases on the JLs that could be supported by the market if it weren't for COVID. At the same time, they're losing their shirts on other brands and models. Just poor management all the way around. Now the new Jeep brand manager has ZERO background in the brand. Then corporate pushes their slimy cultural values down on the dealer network. Where do you think this is going to go?

I think Jeep is dead meat for now. It's just a brand Stellantis sells. The few engineers and product managers who had their heart and soul in the brand probably won't last much longer if Stellantis is still a going concern. Stellantis is trying to offload their Auburn Hills campus to boot.

It won't surprise me in the least of Stellantis is forced to sell Jeep at some point in the near future. In the best of cases, it might be a good thing if GM buys the brand for all of us IMHO...

Meanwhile, I don't have any faith in Stellantis support of the product, including customer service. It's the times we live in. But I still believe the Jeep brand will live on in some fashion!

Good luck with your ordeal. I'll be following.

Jeep is a moneymaker, I doubt they would sell it off.

Sounds like a miserable experience, especially with Jeep asking for documentation a little bit at a time. I'm going to take a wild guess and say the timing chain failed causing valves to hit the piston tops.

ECU or tuner installation makes sense to me here. Exhaust modifications, not so much. If you install a magnaflow bolt on cat back exhaust, you'd be fine. Run aftermarket headers into a catless downpipe? Maybe.

For reference:

Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975, 15 USC, 2302 and Clean Air Act 42 of USA code 7541, you have rights.

This legislation basically states that:

In order for a dealer/manufacturer to deny a warranty on a claimed part, they must PROVE that the part YOU installed/had installed DIRECTLY caused the failure of the part on which you’re claiming the warranty.

It was unsettling when Stellantis asked the dealer for more pictures. I’m lucky I did not modify the Jeep. Once could debate what’s acceptable or not, however I was glad outside of additional time waiting on approval I did not have to involve additional parties to obtain approval. With that I do have some updates.

UPDATE 1-3-24
The dealer called me and said the repairs had been approved by Stellantis. Later that day the Adams Jeep picked me up and brought me to pick up a loaner JLU that I will use until the repairs are complete. While at the dealer I inspected the Jeep to understand what went wrong. The valves (cannot remember if it was intake or exhaust) on the two reach cylinders made contact with the pistons. The drivers side valve broke off and fell down inside the cylinder scoring it. The passenger valve bent when it contacted the piston. The passenger side piston was marked, the drives side was marked, chipped and cracked. Long story short they ordered a new engine which is expected to be delivered on 1-10-24, with two days expected for installation. I will update as I receive information.
