I can't really imagine someone being like ooooh yeah, my 3.6 sounds so throaty. But hey, if that's your kink~ I'm glad you like it.

Not that the 2.0 sounds good at all. It makes engine noises through a quiet exhaust and that's all it should ever do IMO.

I am concerned for many of you. The fact that you’re even debating the exhaust note of any V6 as sounding better than another is a sign you might need hearing help.
Here is a link to the free online hearing test.

My good deed for the day.
Porsche 911 and older BMW M3 don’t sound bad.

I’m not sure why throaty was used. But the 3.6 can sound petty good. But don’t confuse good with loud.

All the 2.0’s I’ve heard with aftermarket exhaust weren’t that great. Stock is definitely better there. There aren’t too many 4cyl engine that sound good from the exhaust side. But a 90’s-00’s B series sound great once in Vtec range…. From the drivers seat…. With a quiet exhaust… all induction noise

Flat 6 and inline 6.
Exactly the point is a V6, I can buy in on the more sports cars even if they are European, but that says something- they don’t use a naturally aspirated V6, it’s the biggest compromise of all. Comprise everything, get nothing. No low end torque, lacks displacement to power through it. I know this started with the sound but at least my shitty sounding 2.0T has 20% more torque at 2500 rpm. And I’ll never say it sounds good, but it does perform.

no clearly if it aint no v8 it aint worth listening to
Well yes but I get it. Some people like the fartbox tuner car sound. To each their own. I just assume that it sounds different to them when there is nothing between their ears bouncing around in their head.

The problem is none of the best sounding engines in the world are freaking v8s. Rotaries v10s and v12s are all superior. It's all subjective though.

Okay that may not be entirely true but none of them are American v8s.

Hmmm- kinda disagree, I think. Are we taking automotive engines, or overall ? First V10’s sound lousy, have one. Very few engines are in the same league with the gen 2 Hemi, attend NHRA drags to confirm. V12’s sound great and the bigger the better like the R/R and Allison aircraft engines. BTW- the 4,360 cu in 28 cyl Pratt and Whitney sounds damn good too. Street vehicles V8 for the masses, V12 for those that can afford them.

Lamborghini and Lexus both have done amazing sounding v10s.

Dodge not so much.

Ferraris V8 sounds are the stuff of Legends.

Not to mention Ferrari and Lamborghini V12s.

Hell the turbo V6 is in the 80s formula 1 cars sounded absolutely mental.

My point was that there are a lot of great sounding engines that are not American v8s.

Oh and honorable mention to the quad rotor Mazda 787b back in the early 90s at Le Mans.

Its almost like so long as you dont just straight pipe it with leroys help in the front yard you can make a ton of stuff sound good even the Nissan 3.5

Hell the VW VR6 with the right exhaust is right up there with any Rotary, V10, V12 or V8

Some things sound good straight piped but generally not gas engines. And if it's any kind of multibank engine it definitely needs crossover pipes.

That's where Dodge went wrong on the Viper. If you stand on either side it just sounds like a poorly running 5 cylinder. It was especially noticeable on the first gen cars.

A good exhaust on any engine goes a long way in my opinion.

The old Volvo Turbo 5 Cyl’s sound good too.
