I bought mine with roughly 30,000 miles on it and have had it for about a year. I've heard rumors that the oil cooler might be plastic and susceptible to warping. What are some things to be concerned about or to look out for with this motor?

As with any gasoline direct injection engine, fuel dilution in the oil is a long-term concern. I avail myself of an oil analysis service, in conjunction with a maximum 5K mile oil change interval, in order to monitor and minimize the possibility of such a thing occurring.

Also, because the subject will invariably come up, Premium fuel is recommended, but not required, for the 2.0T. The Owner's Manual will suggest using Premium when, for example, the vehicle is used for towing.

Since this engine is paired with the 850RE (8-speed auto) as a matter of course, you'll want to consider having the transmission fluid changed every 60K miles. The manual states it is a "Lifetime fill", but ZF themselves recommend that the filter and fluid be changed at those mileage points. This thread provides guidance for the DIYer.

You shouldn’t skimp on a high quality 5w-30. If I still had my 2.0 (owned for 80k miles) I’d now be trying 0w-40 or 5w-40 and definitely stick to a 5k mile oil change interval.

That even happened on my 2016 rubicon.
The plastic ones are flimsy for sure.
