Living in Los Angeles were worried about our gas mileage and crappy gas prices. Looking for Rubicon two-door or four-door and I'm debating if I should go 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder. I drive 30 mi a day to and from work and I'd like to go out and explore so cal as much as i can. I know the six cylinder is reliable as hell, but what about the 4-cylinder? Does anyone have any pros and cons for it?

It's been five minutes. I suppose we were due for another thread on the subject. ;)

Loren -- Skim a few of the threads illustrated in the provided link. You'll see that each engine has its own identity and personality quirks. Arguments for and against can be made for both engines.
Thank you. Sorry forgot to mention. Im new to this page. Seems to be a touchy subject around here 😂

Some subjects get considerable airtime. If we joke a bit about it at a new member's expense, it's usually in good fun.

To address your inquiry, I've nothing but praise for the 2.0T/8-speed auto combination in my JLU. I test-drove three separate V6s, but just couldn't find a love connection with that engine. Get some seat time at the dealership, if you're able; possibly that will assist with your decision process.

Not touchy - just been beat to death. I was one to ask the same question years ago.

Test drive both.

Or.....walk around town shaking a can of pennies. That will be your exact experience acoustically while driving the 4cyl

Welcome to the Forum!
It's just all in fun. The opinions very on engines. For your 30 minute a day, to and from work. Either or engine should work just fine for you. I like the 3.6, but the 2.0 should give you better fuel mileage. But there is a debate on what fuel that you should burn in the 2.0 engine. This may add additional cost. The Owner's manual is the best place, to read about the recommended gasoline to use.

Personal preference.
I chose the 3.6 for two reasons:
1) My commute is short. <2 miles. Doesn’t give the turbo’s enough time to warm up, which may cause issues.
2) 6MT. Only available with the 3.6.

I’m sure the 2.0 is great. The 3.6 has been around a long time and has been a proven engine.

Having said all that, what I would prefer is the 2.8 diesel with the 6MT.

If you keep your V6 Jeep stock, you will be surprised how good the mpg is. As a well wisher I would say get the V6. Drive conservatively making sure you stay in 8th gear most of the time and your mpg will be pretty good. The Pentastar V6 is a sweet engine.
