Not sure what type of Subaru you had but I had a 01 WRX 5 speed that would get the high 20’s on the highway driving it like I stole it.
Not me, I had a pre smog HP Chevy powered 5 (MD) that got maybe 10mpg avg. A friend had a de smogged (still low cr smog pistons and heads) with all the typical cam/intake/carb/upgrades AMC V8 5 that got about the same with nowhere near the power. An AMC 360, even pre or de smogged in a 5 ain’t gonna get your Subi’s 20+ mpg .

Living in Los Angeles were worried about our gas mileage and crappy gas prices. Looking for Rubicon two-door or four-door and I'm debating if I should go 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder. I drive 30 mi a day to and from work and I'd like to go out and explore so cal as much as i can. I know the six cylinder is reliable as hell, but what about the 4-cylinder? Does anyone have any pros and cons for it?
In my opinion I like the v6. Gas mileage wise neither is great. It’s a brick 4 cly is probably slightly better on gas But I would still do the 6

Well I am here for the entertainment and you all don’t disappoint. Hopefully the OP got his question answered but I do have to ask

The 3.6 really sounds good if you open up the exhaust I think.

Definitely one of the better sounding six cylinders out there.
Is that really a thing?
I mean are we talking like a Taurus SHO? I couldn’t even say a Grand National because of the distinct turbo sound.
idk just never really thought of it.
Maybe I need @Sparty get out his helmet and crayons and explain it to me. (Go Blue)

I don't know man I think with the right exhaust the pentastar sounds pretty throaty.

I think the worst or some of the worst sounding v6s ever made as determined by just about everybody is the Nissan VQ series.

I think you might be in a minority 😉

Dude, really!
All I can say is you either had one sick Subaru or you should have contacted Guinness Book in regards to that immaculate 360 you had.
The Subaru was a 1991, so 160ish hp 3200ish pounds, 0-60 was just shy of 8 seconds.
The Jeep had a fiberglass body, under 2500 pounds, 275ish hp, 0-60 in under 6 seconds. It was a handful, would flex the frame and lift driver front when stomped on hard. No the AMC360 wasn't no smog riddled turd. It was freshly built when i got the Jeep. Then i added a custom tuned EFI system, GM big cap HEI style dizzy with custom springs and weights to adjust the advance for my setup.

As to fuel mileage, I was talking strictly around town. My work commute was about 5 miles round trip, with way too many stop signs. So the subby was constantly spooling the turbo up from taking off. The big v8 just loped along, barely working. Both got roughly 15mpg on my work commute.
Ya, the subby got low to mid 20s on long trips on the HWY, but as I said, I was talking around town.

I had a Borla Touring climber on my old 2dr and it sounded pretty good. Wasn’t loud, no need for it to be, but had a good tone. Not that trumpety BS the VQ’s do no matter what exhaust is on it.

Since when does a Z car sound bad?
If it does its probably because someone swapped out the stock exhaust.

Shit its gonna be awkward when the rx7 is done :(
I was going to ask if that was the real reason why you don't want to finish the RX-7.

You keep making excuses so I figure there's got to be a good reason. 🤪

Ive started working on it again, want to have it done by May if at all possible. $600+ in fuel lines I need custom made is kinda keeping it from being finished finished right now. Hope to have it as put together as I can without the lines this weekend.

Y'all forgetting the real reason to get the 2.0 over the 3.6 right now. They stopped supplying engine covers with the 3.6, but the 2.0 still gets an engine cover. You're welcome, OP.
