I personally would not want to keep the fob in the vehicle, if someone breaks in all they have to do is push a button and drive away and I am thinking the alarm will stop once the vehicle is started but I believe you can go to any lock shop and get a door key made.

That happened to my neighbor. He left the spare FOB in his briefcase in the trunk of his Mercedes and locked the doors. Then some kids came through the neighborhood pulling on car door handles and stealing what they could from unlocked cars. Guess what happened when they got to the Mercedes and pulled on the handle? That's right, the doors unlocked and they just hit the start button and drove away.

However, the OP says he would keep it in an RFI bag to block the signal. I still think it would be insecure because if anyone looked through the jeep they'd open the bag and see that it's the key.

Outside of that, I haven't had a laser key cut but I know it can be done. Call around to your local locksmiths.

I have a RFI (radio frequency interference) pouch that has two storage pockets...If the key fob is in the non insulated side it works...If the key fob is in the insulated side, it DOES NOT WORK...https://www.ebay.com/itm/2Pcs-Anti-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

I have done the following for years with my JK's and will probably do with my JL.
  1. I have a non-chipped key stashed in a magnetic key holder l placed outside on the vehicle chassis.
  2. I keep my second fob in an RF blocking bag and that I stash in a very hidden, easy to get to location inside the vehicle. It stays there all the time.
  3. I have my main fob with house keys attached to it, that I carry on my person.

If I go the the beach or run, etc., I place the main fob with house keys in the RF bag with the other second fob inside the JK. Anyway, I then lock the JK by pressing door lock button and closing the door. When I get back from my run/the beach, In use the unchipped key that is in the outside key holder to open the JK. Yes, vehicle alarm goes off, but I quickly grab a fob inside out of the RF bag and cancel alarm.

By the way, you may be able to find a your local locksmith to have the key cut. If not, your Jeep dealer can probably / maybe hook you up.

Forget local hardware stores or Home Depot.

My dealer cannot cut the key...Cannot find any lock smith that can cut the key...Dealer can sell me a new fob with a key for BIG $$$...

On my 2018 Honda Ridgeline, if I lock the door with the key and the key fob is in the non insulated side if the RFI bag, pulling on the door handle does NOT unlock the door...I cannot lock the door with the inside switch with the fob in contact with the truck...MUST use the key to lock...larryd

Well, you can remove the key from the FOB. That is one option. You can buy a FOB on eBAY, (not crazy expensive there) take it to the dealer and just have the key cut and not have it programmed. Yes, alot of effort but it is doable.

If you use the non chipped key to just manually lock each door, you wont have alarm problems when you get back. Just FYI.

You should be able to remove the key from your fob until you can get a duplicate made.

I'm tempted to remove the key because I hate how it easily pops out in my pocket. Has anyone removed their key piece from the fob?
I took my key out to be able to slip it in my running shorts. Easy to do, just need a very small hex driver.

gosh I hate this too. And the size of it, it's obnoxious.

Yes, correct... But, if you lock with Fob button and then use the un-chipped key to open the door, the alarm will go off.

Yes I know....thats why i'm recommending not doing that and locking manually instead. Thats the whole reason I even said something, to present an alternative to doing that.
