Been having cooling issues with the 3.6 - can’t maintain a climb at any sort of speed without overheating - it’s always coolant never anything else - even on flat highways it risks overheating at speed on hot days - coolant has recently been replaced and the issue is persisting

Here In colorado we’ve got quite a heatwave going and it’s been overheating on the highway constantly, even canyon roads at 50 mph - further, on the CA-NV state line it overheats nearly every time I drive through there over the summer

Not really sure what options I have - I removed my lights mounted in front of the grille and that helped, I remove my winch cover and that occasionally helps… but no matter what I’m dealing with overheating

Any advice?

I have a barricade bumper where the winch blocks part of the lower grille

Im also trying to find a grille & hood that allows more airflow - please send any recommendations

Flush your system! there could be some sort of build up or blockage in the radiator etc... try flushing it ...just my 2 cents

I flushed my coolant system recently at 50k miles. Mixed in 2 bottles of Wetter Water to a mix of 60/40 water to antifreeze. I do not have much in front of my grill area to block any air. Not sure what model Jeep you have but with my JLUR I made my hood vents operational to actually work and vent heat. I’m here in Oklahoma with temps in triple digits and I run right at 200 deg. down the highways.

O.K., you changed your engine coolant, did you go back with 50/50 Mopar OAT Antifreeze? Did you install a new Mopar Radiator cap? A new Mopar Thermostat? Did you bleed all of the air out of the cooling system? Did you wash out the radiator externally? If your winch is blocking part of your radiator air intake, then that is block part of the needed CFM air flow to the radiator. Do you still have your air Dam installed. Do you hear your engine cooling fan running on high speed? What size tires are you running, verses your gear ratio? The additional weight that you have added, bumper and winch, can add some to your issue. How about heavy skids?
A Gladiator grill would be helpful, providing that it fits. Opening up hood lovers, will help with under the hood heat, but won’t do much if any, for engine cooling..FYI

I live in Houston TX and it's 105 F here and I have zero issues with overheating in my 3.6L v6
In the front of my grill I have my radiator, A/C condenser, Supercharger intercooler, PSC hydraulic steering heat exchanger. Even then I have zero problems.

Here's what I did to increase air flow into and out of my engine bay.

1. My winch sits low and I didn't put lights in front of the grill area.
2. I threw the hood insulation in the garbage.
3. I cut open the hood vents to make them functional.

Yeah I think I'll try that - the first two years of ownership I had no issues so it must've been something the dealer fucked up

The dealer did the coolant..... so I'll have to go double check radiator/thermo/cooling system. Winch is blocking the lower part of the grille. Stock air intake and air dam are still installed, the engine fan is running max speed on the highway, I'm running K02 35s @ 4.10 gear ratio, and I have minimal additional weight (just bumper & winch are relevant here) Engine oil temp & all other temps are always cool - its always coolant overheating quickly on hot days - especially during long mountain climbs in 100 degree weather

Has the heat done any damage to the paint on the hood without the insulation? or is that insulation simply for noise?
