I agree. The JL dash is the Tacoma dash done right. Controls, buttons, and the general layout is neatly centered, positioned just right, and very symmetrical.
That Jeep dash is truly hideous....I really, really hope it doesnt look like that.

Both of those dash’s look very similar. Button placement, gear selector, etc. They are obviously a different design, but not that different to my eye. Not enough to say one is hideous and the other isn’t lol.

Well, clearly this is pretty subjective. What makes the Taco so different to me is the ugly silver bezel that has no symetry with anything else. That dominates the whole instrument panel.

Yeah I'm not keen on the artists rendering of the Jeep dash either, but since it appears to be an illustration vs a photograph we can hope a lot got left out of the translation as there are other images in this manual that are airbrushed or drawings and maybe not the real thing. That's the problem with production lead times on something like this.

Was reading this review of the Ram Power Wagon and it sounds a lot like the Rubicons with the locking diffs and disconnecting sway bar.

So it would be interesting to see how the Wrangler Pickup works out. What would be handy is if they had a drop down cab wall like the GM Avalanche for loading longer items or accessing the rear. Or maybe as a pass through for dogs if you have a cap on the pickup bed.

The Power Wagon actually had the disconnecting swaybar and electric lockers before the Wrangler Rubicon did. (the original TJ Rubicon used air lockers). The modern Power Wagon came out back in 2005. Jeeps wouldn't get the same tech (electric lockers and swaybar) until the debut of the JK Rubicon for 2007. It's just too bad that the Jeep Rubicon didn't also get a factory winch like the Power Wagon, haha.

With a separate bed and cab, the JT won't have an Avalanche styled midgate - remember the Avalanche was really just a Suburban with the roof chopped off the cargo area. CAD renderings of the JT body/bed have already been shown/leaked. Details are still up in the air though about what, if any, access you'll have through the rear glass.

That's a photo/image from the User's Manual. It should look better in black and with the bigger 8.4 UConnect system. They probably used the tan/khaki interior for the user manual to make the controls and layout easier to see (better contrast against the tan/khaki vs black).

But yeah, that's what the JL/JT interior looks like.

edit: oh, and count me in the group that thinks that the JL interior totally looks like, but better than, the Tacoma's.

Without going full touchscreen - there's not much Jeep designers can really do with all the current controls needed on the dash.

I have a hard time adding switches on my lame-o YJ dash. Let alone adding four switches for owner added items. That's pretty rad.

Not sure why they still couldn't build this in thou. Imagine if the cab has a panel (similar to cars do from the trunk that allow skit to be put in) that folded down towards the front seats and then another panel in the bed the folded down towards the tailgate. Would add some nice additional storage space.

I test drove one of the new Tacomas with a manual transmission. I went into it liking the idea of the truck. After driving it, I didn't like the truck. Actually, I can't say that I didn't like it. I neither liked nor disliked it. It was just there, alongside every other soulless machine that Toyota pushes out. It simply exists and nothing else.

For that reason, I passed on the Tacoma.

This is how I feel about most vehicles. As I get older and more practical I lean to vehicles that are more practical and comfortable, but I can never drive anything that is so soulless and basic transportation. Soulless vehicles are a scam to get people to want autonomous cars, as if there is no joy in driving why not let the machine do the driving.
