Textbook illustration of why the '26 has the large frame brackets/shields behind the rear tires now! Interesting! You can clearly see where the tire/wheel assembly smacked that new shield and then sheared off, whereas in that video of the '24 the entire thing got shoved up into the floorboard.

Why do they take the top off for the crash test?

Presumably these changes aren't bolt ons for say the 2018 but complete redesigns?

It’s good to know my Jeep won’t flip and my Takata airbag won’t kill me when death wobble sends it into a pylon.…

Correct there’s a thread here somewhere that shows the frame was completely redesigned to accept the latest iteration of these frame brackets on each side.

That’s true. But, if someone was serious about making this change, it wouldn’t be impossible. Peraps even better and without reducing ground clearance. It’s all about directing the front wheel where you want it.
I’d argue that is starts with stronger front control arms (Clayton) and reinforcement at the frame, followed by a structure that resists all of this from moving rearward in a crash. Perhaps incorporated into the skid plate and slider system. Think big. Think F1. The whole car is built on the engine and transmission and can withstand a crash into a wall at 200 mph.

Why do they take the top off for the crash test?
This is an assumption on my part, but I'm guessing that they didn't want it breaking off and shattering all over the facility.

I'm also assuming that weight was added strategically to replicate the center-of-gravity and mass of an installed hard top, but that's a BIG assumption on my part...

Makes me wonder if they test all "normal" convertibles "top-down".

These tests aren't remotely relevant to all of us Jeep owners running lifts and bigger tires. We are pretty much guaranteed to flip in a small offset collision because the tire WILL be forced rearward no matter how many brackets you put on the frame. The center line of the tire is well below the frame, the cog is higher, and the tire is an even bigger lever lifting that side of the frame. Best bet if you're going to hit something is square up and hit it. It's the same advice I give everyone when they come wheeling in the desert for the 1st time. Come around a corner at speed and there's a washed out section of trail, lift off the gas and hit it square. The Jeep has a far better chance using all of the suspension to absorb the impact and stay upright.
