What it comes down to is this: is the 2dr for you or the family? My wife has a 4dr and I have a 2dr. While I do only have a small family, we use the 4dr for everything. If it goes into the shop, we will probably have to rent to compensate. The 2dr is more fun to drive, more fun to take exploring, and more fun overall. This is because it is my vehicle, not a family one. There is something unique and special about a 2-door Jeep that you won't know until you drive one around. Also, there is no way to get 5 people in a 2dr safely. As with everything in life, you have to compare both consequences and positives to ownership.

Proud 2 door owner here. In 99% of circumstances I would say get the 2 door, but I think you fall in the 1 percent. Get a 4 door. There will be some times you will need to have some of the kids at one place and other kids someplace else. It is basically impossible to travel with more than one passenger and gear at the same time in a two door.

Came here to say the same thing.

With a 4 door once the kids are in booster seats or out of seats all together they will want to ride in the Jeep and any errand involving anything sizable will result him taking the SUV while the JL sits.

A 4 door will get all the use that he thinks he will currently get out of the 2 door and then some. The 2 door will sit in the garage while he walks past it lamenting the fact he doesn't get to use it very often.

You can’t truly say you’ll never have to transport the kids around. My wife has the “family” vehicle for when we all go places together but what happens when you and the wife need to split up. Conflicting school schedules, sports schedules, doctor appointments? I have 4 kids, albeit, 2 are driving teenagers and couldn’t imagine having a 2 door. The 4 door is even a tight fit for us.

If you have to ask the question, you already know the answer.

Everyone’s situation is different, but I waited to get my 2-door once the nest was empty. Trying to cart a family of four, let alone youngins in a 2-door would make for some stressful times loading/unloading kids into back seats.

Mine are 6/10 and no problem with a two door, if I lived somewhere with bigger open areas and access I’d run a 4 door but here in New England 2dr is way to go. If I had one more kid I would have been mandatory 4dr.

The 2dr will work until that one day where you are asked to run errands and have to take any combination of more than 1 passenger with you, but realize there is no room for more than 1 other person in it because of all the mods you may or may not have done to it...of course this could happen with a 4dr as well...just not as easily ?

2-dr will be just fine. It's what EVERYONE did before 2008.
My two kids and I have gone literally EVERYWHERE their entire life in either a YJ or 2-dr JL. That's daily driving and cross country trips with luggage, coolers and camping equipment. Car seats in their early years.
Additional passengers have included: friends, dog, cat, multiple chickens, turtle, frog, fish (in a bag). Not all at the same time. I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple. The point is, there are too many dad/kid memories waiting for you all in that Jeep. Don't sully those memories with back doors :). Plus kids LOVE climbing over the side into the Jeep when the top is off (which it should be as much as possible).

Life is short, and so your Jeep should be too!, Enjoy the fun that the 2 dr will bring in your life!
Have always had 2-doors,, ended up buying a 2020 4-door and regretted it instantly and traded it and went for the 2023 2-door Sport S. Yipee I am again happy as a Hog in Mud! LOVELOVELOVE the 2 door:CWL:

It’s funny literally everyone telling this fella to get a two door have less than three kids (at home) or no kids at all. ??

There may be times when the wifes suv is not available for whatever reason, then you’ll be in a bind.

Buy the two door.
If the family car breaks down, they still drop off rental cars.
