My gorilla glass windshield got some cracks in it this past fall and I finally got around to replacing it, since my jeep was ordered with this windshield Safelite and geico replaced it for 50 bucks. no questions asked, would I pay out of pocket for said windshield? prolly not they retail about 1100, but if they are attached to the vin via ordering info, insurance will replace as oem

The best way to know is to call Safelite.

Other than a scenario like this, I would never call Safelite.

You could install a windshield protector now that you've replaced it to prevent damage and the hassle of possibly needing to replace again in the future. Windshield Defense by Racing Optics advertises all over this forum.

Safelite replaced our windshield two years ago - no problems with the window (OEM non-monkey glass) and insurance claim which was seamless.

I've had Safelite replace windshields on multiple vehicles and never had any kind of issue. Jeep Wave paid for them to replace my Gorilla glass when none of the local dealers wanted to be bothered with it. I trust them far more than any dealership with my glass replacement.

Curious what kind of first-hand issues you've had with them.

also wondering what issues someone could have with safelite, i've removed and replaced more than a few windshields and side windows, guy took his time and did a really good job imo. he showed up about an hour late, however i live in california and i write that stuff off as traffic

I have replaced the windshield in my 2008 Unlimited twice over the years and last year when it cracked again I told GEICO that I wanted the new Gorilla Glass and would pay the additional cost. Even though I have a $1,000 deductible GEICO did not charge me for the upgrade. GEICO uses Safelite and I never had a problem with them, but this time the installer put the wrong windshield in and realized it when he got to his next appointment. Safelite called me right away and made the correct install the next day. I live in the mountains now and Safelite came to my home which was a real plus.

Gorilla glass is a fraud. Jeep “Care” finally approved a replacement except they didn’t have any for 3 months. Safelite had one in 3 weeks so I went through our insurance. Not sure what the point of Gorilla glass is but it’s not any more resistant to chips/cracks than non Gorilla and will crack for no reason with temp swings.

Agree, mine broke from small rock at 200 miles, all I got from Stellantis was a free warranty on small dents…they would not cover the cost of a new windshield. I now have racing optics on my new windshield, taken a few rock strikes, no chips or cracks.

If you have a Jeep with adaptive cruise, they have a mandatory $817.29 service fee to "calibrate the camera" even though with a Wrangler the glass doesn't even touch the sensors (since the windshield folds down). I guess not a big deal if your insurance pays for it, but for an out-of-pocket expense, it's a $817.29 charge that should be optional (like it is with most other glass companies).

Total scam.

The worst part is, the calibration is normally done in less than 20 minutes. I had a different vehicle that needed calibration, and I complained bitterly but politely about it. Safelite tech told me that the insurance companies are setting that price and Safelite is charging accordingly. The machine used to perform the calibration cost 8k and it pays for itself in less than 2 days.

The insurance companies should be sued over this fraudulent pricing scheme. It is designed to get people to add glass coverage to their policies, thereby increasing their profits.
