When I had my replaced I searched out three other local companies - all were within 10% of each other and all had the "recalibration fee" thing. Anyway, choose Safelite, insurance covered the replacement 100%. Too bad to hear this in your area.

You can argue that it's unnecessary and a scam, all you want, but it's not a Safelite thing. You have to do it at the Jeep dealer too. Jeep Wave paid for my recalibration with Safelite. If Jeep thought it was unnecessary, they wouldn't have paid for it. The recalibration fee for mine wasn't anything close to $800. As I recall it was <$400 for the calibration. The overall fee was $1,279.01.If you have a Jeep with adaptive cruise, they have a mandatory $817.29 service fee to "calibrate the camera" even though with a Wrangler the glass doesn't even touch the sensors (since the windshield folds down). I guess not a big deal if your insurance pays for it, but for an out-of-pocket expense, it's a $817.29 charge that should be optional (like it is with most other glass companies).

I agree. I have had two JL windshields done without the calibration (at another company) and my collision warning and adaptive cruise still work just fine. For the Wrangler I don't think that it is even necessary. The other company told me that calibration was optional but Safelite said it was a mandatory charge.
